Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Wood Counter Stools before you buy.
The main difference is height. Counter stools typically feature a seat height of 24 to 26 inches, designed for kitchen islands, while bar stools are taller, usually ranging from 28 to 32 inches, intended for high bars.
Measure the distance from the floor to the underside of your counter. You should aim for a gap of 10 to 12 inches between the seat and the counter surface to allow for comfortable legroom.
Yes, solid wood stools offer superior structural integrity and longevity. While veneer can look similar, solid wood is less prone to peeling and can be sanded and refinished if it gets scratched over time.
Hardwoods like oak, maple, walnut, and acacia are ideal. These species have a high density that resists dents, scratches, and the daily wear and tear of frequent use.
All-wood seats offer a sleek, minimalist aesthetic and are easier to wipe clean. Upholstered seats provide extra comfort for long periods of sitting but require more maintenance to prevent stains.
Look for stools with reinforced joinery, such as mortise and tenon joints, and adjustable leveling glides on the feet to compensate for uneven flooring.
Only if they are made from weather-resistant hardwoods like teak or acacia and treated with a protective sealant. Standard indoor kitchen stools will warp or crack if exposed to moisture and UV rays.
