These tiny polyhedrals are roughly half the size of standard RPG dice, making them incredibly easy to carry in a pocket or small pouch during a session. The Steelblue colorway features a stunning swirled effect, blending steel and royal blue tones that look like miniature gems. You get a full set including everything from the d4 to the d20, all housed in a convenient tube. The most immediate decision you will face is the material of the dice. This choice dictates not only the visual style but also the sound and weight they produce on the table. Resin and acrylic dice are the industry standard for a reason: they allow for incredible complexity in design, including swirling colors, embedded glitter, or even miniature landscapes trapped inside the polyhedrals. They are lightweight and generally more affordable, making them ideal for large collections.
If you prefer a more substantial, premium feel, heavy metal dice are an excellent choice. These provide a satisfying 'thud' when they land and feel significant in the hand. However, be cautious with metal dice. They can damage wooden tables or delicate gaming mats if not used with a dice tray. Gemstone dice offer a middle ground of luxury, providing natural weight and unique geological patterns, though they can be more brittle than resin or metal.
Clarity and Legibility
A common pitfall in dice shopping is prioritizing beauty over function. A set of dice might look stunning in a display case, but if the numbers are difficult to read during a heated combat encounter, they become a liability. Look for high-contrast numbering. For example, if you choose a dark, swirling nebula-style resin set, ensure the numbers are etched deeply and filled with a bright, contrasting color like gold, silver, or white. Avoid sets where the ink is thin or the font is overly stylized to the point of illegibility. In the heat of a session, you want to know exactly what you rolled without squinting at the table.
Mathematical Fairness and Balance
While most high-quality dice are manufactured to be fair, the physics of dice rolling can vary. Cheaply made plastic dice may have internal air bubbles or uneven weight distribution, which can lead to 'loaded' results where certain numbers appear more frequently than others. If you are playing in a competitive setting or a high-stakes campaign, look for dice that are described as 'precision-cut' or 'balanced.' High-end resin dice are often hand-polished to ensure that the centers of gravity are consistent across all faces, ensuring that your victories are earned by luck and strategy rather than manufacturing flaws.
Set Composition and Utility
Before purchasing, consider the specific games you play. A standard polyhedral set typically includes a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and a d20. However, some specialized games might require multiple d10s for percentile rolls, or perhaps a specific set of d6s for a different system entirely. If you are a collector, you might look for 'mega-sets' that include extra dice or specialized shapes. If you are a traveler, look for compact sets that fit easily into a small pouch. Always verify that the set contains the specific denominations required by your favorite tabletop systems to avoid being caught empty-handed during a session.

Quick answers about Bescon Dice Dice before you buy.
High-quality dice are generally crafted from acrylic, resin, or heavy metals like zinc alloy to ensure durability and a satisfying weight during rolls.
Premium dice undergo precision cutting and tumbling processes to ensure even weight distribution, preventing certain numbers from appearing more frequently than others.
Yes, most standard sets include the essential seven-die polyhedral kit (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and percentile dice) required for most tabletop gaming systems.
Look for dice with deep-etched numbering or high-quality paint infill, as these are much more resistant to fading from repeated contact with dice trays and hands.
Metal dice tend to produce a sharp, clacking sound, while resin and acrylic dice are much quieter, making them ideal for shared gaming spaces.
While not strictly required, using a dice tray prevents heavy dice from bouncing off the table and protects your tabletop surfaces from scratches.
A simple wipe with a soft, damp microfiber cloth is usually sufficient. Avoid harsh chemicals or alcohol, which can cloud resin or strip paint from the numbers.
