A Guide to Selecting the Best exp vision diving masks
The Importance of Lens Material: Tempered Glass vs. Plastic
The most fundamental choice you will make is the material used for the lens. For serious diving, tempered glass is the gold standard. Tempered glass is significantly more resistant to scratches and impact than plastic, ensuring that your view remains unobstructed over years of use. More importantly, tempered glass is much more resistant to fogging and provides superior optical clarity, which is essential when observing delicate marine life. When shopping, always ensure the mask specifies 'tempered glass' to guarantee safety and durability under pressure.
Achieving the Perfect Seal: Skirt Material and Shape
A mask is only as good as its seal. The 'skirt' is the flexible part of the mask that rests against your face. Most high-end masks utilize high-grade liquid silicone for the skirt. Silicone is preferred because it remains soft and pliable even in cold water, allowing it to contour to the unique geometry of your facial features. When evaluating a mask, look for a skirt design that avoids sharp angles and instead uses smooth, sweeping curves. A well-designed skirt will distribute pressure evenly, preventing leaks and minimizing the 'mask squeeze' sensation during deeper descents.
Field of View and Frame Design
The architecture of the mask frame dictates your peripheral vision. Low-volume masks are highly favored by freedivers and technical divers alike because they are easier to equalize and offer a more streamlined profile. However, for recreational divers, a wider field of view is often the priority. Look for masks with large, single-lens designs or wide-angle frames that reduce the 'tunnel vision' effect. A mask that allows you to see more of your surroundings without having to move your head excessively provides a much more immersive experience.
Volume and Equalization
As you descend, the air space inside your mask will compress. To prevent discomfort or injury, you must be able to equalize the pressure by blowing air from your nose into the mask. Masks with low internal volume require less air to equalize, making them more efficient and comfortable. If you are prone to sinus issues or are planning to dive to greater depths, prioritizing a low-volume mask will significantly enhance your comfort levels.
Fit Testing: The Non-Negotiable Step
No matter how advanced the technology, a mask that does not fit your specific face shape is useless. The best way to test a mask is to place it against your face without using the strap. Inhale slightly through your nose. If the mask stays suctioned to your face, you likely have a good seal. Avoid masks with straps that feel overly tight or rigid, as these can cause facial fatigue. Remember, a mask that leaks is a distraction you cannot afford when focusing on your buoyancy and navigation.

Quick answers about Exp Vision Diving Masks before you buy.
Exp vision masks utilize advanced optical technology, such as high-transparency tempered glass and specialized lens curvatures, to significantly widen the peripheral field of view and reduce visual distortion.
The seal depends on the compatibility between the silicone skirt and your facial structure. Look for high-grade, soft silicone that conforms to the contours of your face rather than pressing hard against the skin.
While most wide-vision masks are not natively prescription, many are designed with enough internal volume to accommodate prescription lens inserts or custom-fitted corrective glass.
Tempered glass is highly resistant to scratches and impact, provides much clearer optical clarity, and is a critical safety feature because it shatters into small, blunt pieces rather than sharp shards.
Use an anti-fog spray or a small amount of specialized defogging gel. For new masks, a common technique is to rinse the lenses with saliva or a mild soap solution before your first dive to remove manufacturing residues.
Place the mask on your face without the strap and inhale through your nose. If the mask sucks gently against your skin and stays in place, it is a good fit for your facial geometry.
Not necessarily. While the larger lens area provides more visibility, the internal volume remains manageable, allowing you to clear water from the mask with a simple, standard exhalation through the nose.
