A Guide to Selecting the Best newbang door handle sets
Determine Your Preferred Grip Style
The first decision in selecting a newbang set is the physical interaction. Lever handles are the gold standard for modern ergonomics. They are easy to operate with a palm or an elbow, making them ideal for households with children, elderly residents, or those carrying heavy items. However, knob handles offer a more traditional, classic silhouette that can ground a room with a sense of permanence. When choosing between these, consider the accessibility requirements of your space. If you are looking for a sleek, minimalist look, lever sets often provide a more streamlined profile that complements contemporary cabinetry and door frames.
Evaluate Finish Durability and Maintenance
The finish of your door handle is its most visible attribute, but it is also the most vulnerable to environmental factors. Newbang offers a variety of finishes, ranging from matte black to polished satin nickel and brass tones. Matte finishes are excellent for hiding fingerprints and smudges, making them a smart choice for high-touch areas like bathrooms or kitchen entrances. Conversely, polished finishes provide a high-end, reflective look but require more frequent cleaning to maintain their luster. If the handles are intended for an exterior door or a high-moisture environment, prioritize finishes that are specifically treated to resist oxidation and corrosion.
Assess the Mechanical Build Quality
A door handle is only as good as its internal mechanism. When reviewing sets, look for descriptions that highlight the grade of the materials used in the latch and spring components. A high-quality set should feel substantial in the hand—not hollow or lightweight. You want to ensure the return spring is robust enough to prevent the lever from sagging over time. If a handle feels flimsy during a test or in product descriptions, it is likely to develop a 'loose' feeling within a few months of heavy use. Look for sets that emphasize solid construction and smooth latch retraction.
Consider the Installation Compatibility
Before committing to a specific set, verify the technical specifications of your existing doors. Most standard residential doors require a specific backset (the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the handle) and a standard bore hole diameter. While newbang sets are designed to be user-friendly for DIY enthusiasts, ensuring that the set matches your door's thickness and hardware spacing will save you from the frustration of needing professional modification. Always check if the set includes the necessary strike plates and mounting screws to ensure a seamless transition from your old hardware to the new.
Matching Aesthetic to Room Function
Finally, use the handle set to define the mood of the room. In a master bedroom, a soft satin finish can contribute to a calming, luxurious atmosphere. In a home office or entryway, a bold matte black lever can act as a striking architectural accent. Don't feel obligated to match every door in the house perfectly. Instead, aim for a cohesive design language that flows through your living spaces, using the hardware to bridge the gap between different design eras.
