Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Scented Jar Candles before you buy.
Look for candles that mention a 'strong scent throw.' A good candle should fill a medium-sized room with fragrance even when unlit (cold throw) and noticeably scent the air once burning (hot throw).
Paraffin wax is a petroleum byproduct that typically offers a stronger scent throw, while soy wax is a natural, renewable resource that burns cleaner, slower, and longer with less soot production.
Tunneling usually occurs because the candle wasn't burned long enough during its first use. To prevent this, ensure the wax melts all the way to the edges of the jar during every lighting session.
You should burn a candle until the entire top surface has turned into a pool of liquid wax. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn for the life of the candle.
Trim the wick to about a quarter-inch before every light, avoid drafts, and never burn a candle for more than four hours at a time.
While many are safe, some essential oils and synthetic fragrances can be irritating to sensitive respiratory systems in dogs and cats. Always ensure the room is well-ventilated.
Keep your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, as heat and UV rays can degrade the fragrance oils and melt the wax.
Once the wax has completely cooled, pop out the remaining bits, wash the jar with warm soapy water, and it can be repurposed as a storage container.
