A Guide to Selecting the Best re marks jigsaw puzzles
Piece Count and Complexity
The most immediate decision factor is the piece count. This is the primary driver of difficulty. For beginners or those looking for a low-stress activity, a count between 300 and 500 pieces is ideal. These can typically be completed in a single sitting. Intermediate puzzlers often gravitate toward the 1,000-piece standard, which offers a balanced challenge of pattern recognition and color sorting. For the true enthusiast, 2,000 to 5,000 pieces (or more) provide a multi-day immersion that requires significant table space and organizational strategy. When choosing, consider not just the number of pieces, but the complexity of the image. A 500-piece puzzle of a solid blue sky can actually be more difficult than a 1,000-piece puzzle of a busy cityscape.
Material Quality and 'The Click'
The physical sensation of a puzzle is paramount. High-end puzzles are typically manufactured from thick, high-density blue or white cardboard. You want to look for pieces that are 'snug'—meaning they fit together with a satisfying tactile click without being so tight that they damage the cardboard, or so loose that they fall apart when the puzzle is moved. Avoid puzzles that feel flimsy or have 'dusty' edges, as this indicates low-quality die-cutting. Some premium options even utilize wooden pieces, which offer a distinct weight and a much higher level of durability for those who enjoy framing their finished work.
Image Artistry and Color Accuracy
A puzzle is only as good as its print quality. Look for high-resolution imagery that avoids excessive graininess or blurring. Color accuracy is crucial. If the printing process is poor, you may find it impossible to distinguish between subtle shades of green or brown, leading to frustration rather than relaxation. Many collectors seek out specific styles, such as fine art reproductions, breathtaking landscapes, or intricate illustrations. Ensure the image has enough visual variety—distinct textures, varying light sources, and clear focal points—to help you navigate the sorting process.
Surface Finish and Glare
One often overlooked aspect is the finish of the puzzle surface. A high-gloss finish can make a puzzle look vibrant, but it can also create significant glare under household lighting, making it difficult to see fine details. Conversely, a matte finish is much easier on the eyes and reduces reflections, though it may lack that 'pop' of color. If you plan to work under bright LED lamps or near a window, a matte or semi-matte finish is generally the superior choice for a seamless experience.

Quick answers about Re Marks Jigsaw Puzzles before you buy.
Look for thick, recycled blue or grey cardboard that resists bending, precision die-cutting that ensures pieces fit snugly without gaps, and a matte finish to prevent distracting light glare during assembly.
Always check the box contents immediately upon opening. High-end brands typically include a small percentage of extra pieces, whereas budget brands may have higher error rates.
Cardboard puzzles are more common and offer more intricate, varied piece shapes. Wooden puzzles, often called 'whimsical' puzzles, feature thicker pieces and unique, character-based shapes that fit together like a fine mechanism.
Difficulty scales with piece count and image complexity. A 1,000-piece puzzle with a solid color gradient is significantly harder than a 500-piece puzzle with high-contrast, distinct patterns.
Once completed, you can use specialized puzzle glue to bond the pieces together, or use a puzzle mat/roll if you intend to take it apart later. For permanent display, a dedicated puzzle frame is best.
For an easier experience, look for images with distinct textures, varied colors, and clear landmarks. Avoid images with large areas of repetitive patterns or solid dark colors if you are a beginner.
No, puzzle glue is permanent. If you want to preserve the ability to disassemble the puzzle, avoid glue and use a puzzle roll or a specialized storage board instead.
