- WASHABLE AT HOME: easy to wash, can be washed in a conventional washing machine. Use a mild detergent, and do not use softeners. Select low centrifuge speed if the rug has braids, fringes or pom poms. Do not leave the wet rug in the washer, as colors may run or stain. Tumble dry at low temperature. Avoid drying in the sun.
- HANDMADE: each rug is carefully hand-made one by one by our artisans. Don't worry if lint appears, as this is residue fiber produced from cutting the cotton. During the first few days, it is advisable to sweep the rug with a hard brush in the direction of the plush, and then it is recommended to use the vacuum cleaner. We do not recommend the use of robot vaccum cleaners. Should you find any long or loose threads, cut these using a pair of scissors. Never pull a thread.
- ECO-FRIENDLY: Our designs are made in natural cotton and non-toxic dyes

The Lorena Canals Azteca Natural-Vintage Blue rug is a total game-changer for anyone who values both artisanal aesthetics and practical home maintenance. This handmade piece brings a sophisticated, cozy vibe to a room with its blend of natural, yellow, and vintage blue tones, but the real magic lies in its utility. Because it is crafted from 97% cotton with a recycled cotton base, it feels incredibly soft and flexible underfoot. Unlike heavy, high-maintenance decor, you can toss this lightweight rug directly into a conventional washing machine. Just remember to skip the softeners and use a low centrifuge speed to keep those beautiful textures intact. It is a rare find that marries eco-friendly, non-toxic materials with the actual reality of living in a busy home.

- TIMELESS DESIGN: This cozy, washable wool rug is handmade with double tufting for a multi-textured surface combining vertical and horizontal strokes with criss-crossing lines to simulate braids. The undyed Sheep White wool shows the pattern outlined in different pile lengths while the edges are hand-finished with twisted fringes. A neutral, versatile piece fit for any space and room. It comes packed in a cotton tote bag including a complimentary anti-slip underlay.
- MACHINE WASHABLE: Washable separately using a gentle cycle at 30°C without bleaching. For this size, we recommend a minimum capacity of 13kg. Use a mild detergent and do not use fabric softener. Tumble dry at low temperature. Avoid drying in the sun.
- ECOFRIENDLY : Handmade with our exclusive reversible tufting technique using natural wool and non-toxic dyes. It can be combined with other elements to create a warm and cozy atmosphere thanks to its neutral colors.
- RECOMMENDATIONS: This is a handcrafted piece, and slight variations in color and appearance may occur, being part of its uniqueness. Wool rugs will shed fibers when new and during use. This is not a defect, but a characteristic of the natural wool fiber used. Regular vacuum cleaning using a low-powered with a high-pile setting, to remove any loose fibers and to prevent dust and crumbs from setting into the roots of the fiber. We do not recommend using this rug for children under 3 years.
- COMPOSITION: Pile: 100% Wool (contains 20% of non-dyed New Zealand wool). Base: Recycled Cotton

Most high-end wool rugs are treated like fragile museum pieces, yet the Lorena Canals ARI rug defies that expectation by being fully machine washable. It features a sophisticated, multi-textured surface created through a unique double-tufting technique that mimics the look of braided lines. I love how the undyed Sheep White wool creates a subtle, tactile pattern that feels much more expensive than a standard nursery rug. While you should expect some natural fiber shedding initially—which is totally normal for New Zealand wool—the craftsmanship is evident in the hand-finished twisted fringes. It even arrives with a complimentary anti-slip underlay and a cotton tote, making it a thoughtful, eco-friendly addition to a living space or a child's room.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Cotton Nursery Rugs before you buy.
Yes, cotton is a natural, breathable fiber that is generally hypoallergenic and soft against sensitive skin, making it an excellent choice for tummy time and floor play.
Most high-quality cotton rugs are machine washable on a gentle cycle. However, always check the specific care label first, as some woven patterns may require flat drying to prevent shrinkage.
Cotton rugs do not have built-in grip. To ensure safety in a nursery, we highly recommend using a non-slip rug pad underneath to prevent sliding during playtime.
Cotton rugs tend to be flatter and more lightweight than synthetic shag rugs. While they offer softness, they provide less impact absorption, so they are best used as a decorative layer over a padded rug pad.
Natural cotton fibers can experience minor shedding during the first few uses. This is normal and typically settles after the first few washes.
To maintain the size and shape of your rug, avoid high heat settings in the dryer. Air drying or using a low-heat tumble setting is the safest method for cotton textiles.
Cotton is often preferred for nurseries because it is free from many of the harsh chemical treatments and synthetic dyes found in polyester or nylon rugs, making it a more eco-friendly and breathable option.
