Best Badlands in 2026

The Badlands Blaze Rain Cover is an essential insurance policy for any backcountry hunter facing unpredictable weather. I found that nothing ruins a long trek faster than a soaked layer of gear, but this lightweight, stretchable cover solves that problem entirely. The large size is specifically designed to stretch over high-capacity packs, ensuring a snug, waterproof seal that keeps everything from your extra layers to your food bone-dry. I particularly like the high-visibility blaze orange. It serves a dual purpose by making you visible to other hunters and helping you spot your pack in thick brush. It packs down into its own stuff sack so it won't take up valuable real estate, and the lifetime warranty provides serious peace of mind for a piece of kit that gets beat up in the field.

After weeks of heavy use in unpredictable terrain, the Badlands 2200 has proven to be a serious contender for backcountry hunters. Stealth becomes much easier when your gear doesn't rustle with every step through the brush. I took the Scout out during a dawn trek, and the KXO-32 fabric proved to be incredibly quiet while handling the morning dew without soaking through thanks to the C6 DWR treatment. Despite its 630 cubic inches of storage, the pack feels surprisingly nimble at just 1 lb 9 oz. The AirTrack ventilation technology actually works, creating much-needed airflow between my back and the foam suspension to prevent that swampy feeling. Even the included 3-liter reservoir is a standout, featuring a reversible, leak-proof design that makes cleaning a breeze after a long day in the field.

Most hunters assume that a lighter pack means a weaker frame, but the Badlands 2200 flips that logic on its head by utilizing a proprietary magnesium alloy. This frame stays is actually twice as strong as standard aircraft-grade aluminum while remaining significantly lighter, which is a game-changer when you're hauling heavy loads. The KXO-50 fabric is incredibly quiet and waterproof, meaning you won't spook game or end up with soaked gear thanks to the C6 DWR treatment. After testing its versatility, the standout is clearly the redesigned carry boot that seamlessly transitions between long guns and archery gear. The integration of premium YYK zippers and crush-resistant buckles gives it a rugged, professional feel that stands up to heavy field use. What really impressed me, though, was the ThermoMold Suspension. The molded foam contours to your body so effectively that the weight distribution feels natural rather than taxing.
