The Draft King SS8U stands as a premier choice for homeowners seeking a permanent, heavy-duty solution for masonry chimney protection. After inspecting the construction, the heavy-duty 24-gauge stainless steel hood and the thick 18-gauge expanded metal mesh immediately signal long-term durability. Unlike cheaper alternatives, the design features an inward-turned mesh base that seats firmly against the flue tile, effectively sealing out nuisance wildlife while maintaining excellent airflow. The installation process is streamlined thanks to the slotted hex-head mounting bolts, which allow for a secure, outside-mounted fit that maximizes free air space. Because this is a high-quality, American-made component with a lifetime limited warranty, it offers the kind of peace of mind that standard hardware store caps simply cannot match.

The Draft King CBO815 stands as a top-tier choice for homeowners looking to protect their masonry chimneys from debris and animals. Unlike flimsy alternatives, this cover utilizes a heavy-duty 24 gauge powder-coated galvanized steel hood paired with a substantial 18 gauge expanded metal mesh. The scalloped corners and roll-formed edges give it a finished, professional look that complements most rooflines. I particularly like the outside mounting design, which creates significantly more free air space than traditional slip-in models, ensuring your chimney breathes properly. Just keep in mind that this is strictly for masonry chimneys with a 13.5 to 14.5-inch round diameter. It isn't designed for air-cooled metal systems. It is a rugged, dependable piece of hardware that prioritizes long-term durability.
