The Humes & Berg Stonelined Bass Trombone Mic-A-Mute delivers a surprisingly rich, velvety cup sound that transforms your low end. I found that this large bore mute excels specifically when you need to blend into a vocal background or achieve that elusive, smooth subtone directly at the microphone. It avoids the harshness often found in larger mutes, instead opting for a soft, big tonal quality that feels incredibly organic. Whether you are tackling complex full section work or looking to add texture to a studio recording, this tool provides the professional warmth necessary for high-stakes performances. It is a specialized piece of gear that prioritizes tonal depth over mere volume reduction.

You might wonder if a tiny piece of hardware can actually change your trombone's tonal vocabulary, but this Humes and Berg Stonelined Short Plunger is a legitimate game-changer for tenor players. Often referred to as a 'pocket mute' due to its compact, straight design, it offers a specialized alternative to the standard, bulky plunger setups. During testing, the short profile made it incredibly easy to manipulate for those expressive, vocal-like effects that define the plunger style. It provides a distinct character that feels intentional rather than accidental. While the shipping window requires a bit of patience, the ability to toss such a specific tool into your instrument case without adding significant weight makes it an essential addition for any gigging musician needing quick tonal shifts.

Jazz trombonists looking to capture that authentic, vintage big band growl need this specific stonelined plunger in their instrument case immediately.
