Best Jerry's Blade Buddies in 2026

You might hesitate at the idea of buying skates that seem too flashy to be practical, but the SULIFEEL Rainbow Unicorn skates actually balance whimsy with surprisingly solid engineering. The standout feature is the four-size adjustable boot, which uses a simple one-button system to grow alongside your child, effectively extending the life of your investment. Instead of worrying about batteries, the eight PU wheels feature self-generating rainbow lights that illuminate beautifully during evening sessions. Underneath the colorful exterior, the reinforced aluminum frame and ABEC-7 bearings provide a smooth, quiet, and confident ride that feels much more premium than your standard toy. It is a thoughtful, durable gift that manages to be both a visual spectacle and a reliable piece of outdoor gear.

Most people assume that beginner figure skates have to be stiff and uncomfortable, but the SoftSkate design challenges that notion entirely. These skates prioritize a much more forgiving feel for younger skaters or those just finding their edge. The synthetic upper and tongue work alongside fully lined, cushy foam padding to ensure that the transition from the locker room to the ice is painless. You aren't just getting a pretty white and pink aesthetic, either. The inclusion of the Ultima MARK I figure blade means you have a reliable foundation for basic maneuvers right out of the box. It is a thoughtful balance of soft-boot comfort and the technical requirements needed to actually learn the sport.

You are sitting in the locker room minutes before puck drop, and the last thing you need is your skates loosening up mid-period. These Elite Hockey Prolace waxed laces are designed specifically to prevent that frustrating drift during high-intensity play. The silver grey color with black specks adds a sharp, professional aesthetic to your gear, but the real value is in the wax coating. This coating ensures the laces stay tight and maintain their tension through every stride and turn on the ice. At 96 inches, they provide plenty of length for a secure, customized fit. It is a simple, reliable upgrade that keeps your focus on the game rather than your footwear.

Serious hockey players who are tired of constant re-tying during intense shifts need these Elite99 Prolace waxed laces immediately. I found that the wax coating is a total game-changer for maintaining a consistent, locked-in feel throughout an entire period. Instead of your laces loosening up as you move, the wax helps them stay tight against your boot when it matters most. The molded tips are another huge plus because they don't fray or struggle to thread through tight eyelets, which saves a lot of frustration in the locker room. At just under six dollars, these pink laces are an incredibly easy way to upgrade your gear and add a bit of personal style to your skates without breaking the bank.

New skaters often struggle with the painful combination of insufficient ankle support and cold feet, but the Jackson Ultima SoftSkate addresses both issues simultaneously. These skates feature a reinforced vinyl upper paired with a rolled padded collar and a cushioned foam lining to prevent abrasions during practice. I love that the Ultima Mark I stainless steel blades come factory sharpened, making them ready for the ice immediately. The design is surprisingly sophisticated for an entry-level skate, utilizing a no-maintenance PVC outsole and a stylish chromed insert. Because these were developed alongside coaches and technicians, you get a boot that actually prioritizes performance and stability rather than just aesthetics. It is a reliable, comfortable choice for anyone transitioning from learning to consistent rink sessions.

Young skaters looking to transition from recreational sliding to actual figure skating need the Jackson Ultima SoftSkate to bridge the gap between comfort and performance. I found that the synthetic upper and tongue provide a lightweight feel that doesn't weigh down a beginner's foot during long sessions on the ice. The standout feature here is definitely the cushy foam padding that lines the interior, offering a level of comfort that prevents the dreaded 'break-in' pain common with stiffer boots. Paired with the integrated Ultima MARK I figure blade, these skates offer a reliable foundation for learning basic edges and turns. The white and blue aesthetic is classic, making them a stylish choice for any young athlete hitting the rink.

Walking through a crowded rink lobby with your expensive skates in hand used to be a nerve-wracking race against floor damage and blade dulling. These Rollergard Supergards take the anxiety out of transit by providing a rugged layer of defense that keeps your edges sharp for much longer. I noticed the serrated bottom and wider stance provide a much more stable feel when moving between sessions, and the side drainage holes are a thoughtful touch for managing moisture. The non-slip strap is a genuine game-changer because it actually stays secured to the boot instead of sliding off mid-walk. They are a smart investment to prevent rust and costly sharpening trips.

The Peachy Keen colorway immediately catches your eye with its vibrant, retro-inspired patterns that demand attention at any rink. These C SEVEN quad skates lean heavily into that vintage aesthetic with a subtle 1-inch heel, but they aren't just about looks. I found the structured PVC boot provides the kind of solid ankle support that is absolutely vital for beginners finding their balance. The 58mm wheels feel surprisingly snappy, offering a boost of speed while the 83A urethane keeps things smooth and grippy whether you are transitioning from polished indoor floors to rougher outdoor pavement. It is a stylish, functional setup for anyone wanting to blend old-school charm with reliable performance.

Cruising through a sun-drenched boardwalk or gliding across a smooth rink becomes a total head-turner in these vibrant sunshine yellow skates. I was immediately impressed by the drum-dyed vinyl, which feels substantial enough to resist those inevitable scuffs and scratches from daily use. The high-top design isn't just about that trendy rainbow aesthetic. The extra ankle padding and curved collar provide a snug, secure fit that actually supports your movements. You get a remarkably smooth roll thanks to the ABEC-5 steel bearings and 58mm wheels, making transitions between indoor and outdoor surfaces feel seamless. Plus, having a replaceable adjustable toe stopper gives you much-needed confidence when it is time to brake and control your speed.

Can a beginner's skate actually provide the comfort needed to master those first difficult edges? The Jackson Ultima SoftSkate is designed specifically to answer that question by prioritizing a soft, forgiving feel without sacrificing technical essentials. I found the synthetic upper and tongue to be incredibly lightweight, which helps prevent foot fatigue during longer sessions on the ice. The interior is impressively plush, featuring fully lined cushy foam padding that hugs the foot securely. The serrated bottom of these Supergards provides a much-needed grip that prevents your blades from sliding around while you're walking to the rink. I was particularly impressed by the non-slip strap design, which ensures these guards actually stay attached to your skates instead of slipping off mid-stride. They do a fantastic job of shielding your expensive blades from the usual culprits of wear, specifically rust and dulling. The inclusion of side drainage holes is a smart touch for moisture management, and the wider stance offers a more stable feel. If you want to extend the life of your equipment and sharpen your skates less frequently, these are a practical addition to your gear bag.

Thermajane's girls thermal set earns its spot in the winter drawer the moment the temperature drops. The fleece lining is soft enough that my kid wears it around the house on lazy Saturdays, but it's the layered performance that matters — the set sits flat under jeans and a sweater with zero bulk, so nothing bunches at the waist or rides up during recess. Four-way stretch keeps her moving through sledding, skating, and the walk to school, and the fabric pulls sweat away instead of leaving her clammy after she's been running around. Simple, warm, and priced reasonably. It's the kind of base layer she stops noticing — which is exactly the point.
