Most kitchen heat protectors are either too thin to actually stop a burn or too bulky to store, but these Joyhalo silicone mats find a rare middle ground. The honeycomb pattern isn't just for aesthetics. It adds a layer of structural heat resistance that works alongside a thicker-than-average silicone build to shield your countertops. I was impressed by the versatility of this four-piece set, which includes both round and square shapes. You can use them as standard hot pads, but they also double as jar openers or even garlic peelers. While they are dishwasher safe, the silicone does tend to hold onto water, so you'll want to give them a quick shake or squeeze before setting a hot pan down. They are incredibly flexible, making it easy to roll them up or hang them by the built-in corner holes.
