Daniel Smith has redefined professional color palettes with Lunar Blue, a moody watercolor that is an absolute essential for any landscape artist. This isn't just another dark pigment. It features a sophisticated granulating lunar black that floats over a deep phthalo undertone, creating a texture that feels like the actual fabric of a night sky. I found that it behaves beautifully across different washes, acting as an inky midnight shade when concentrated or a diffused, semi-transparent veil when diluted. It leaves behind a subtle, atmospheric shadow rather than a heavy stain, making it perfect for capturing moonlit water or celestial gradients. Because it is formulated with high lightfastness and adheres to ASTM D4236 standards, you can trust that these ethereal nocturnal tones will remain vibrant on your paper for years to come.

Most artists assume a single green tube can handle an entire landscape, but the versatility of Daniel Smith's Hooker's Green is what actually makes that possible. This isn't a flat, synthetic-looking pigment. It is a warm, natural shade that behaves beautifully as a foundational color. Because it is semi-transparent and non-granulating, you can layer it with French Ultramarine to mimic everything from frothy ocean waves to deep, dusty evergreen shadows. It stays remarkably easy to work with due to its low to medium-staining properties, giving you more control over your washes. Whether you are mixing forest light or experimenting with adding India ink for depth, this 15ml tube offers a professional-grade reliability that fits perfectly into a serious studio kit.
