Best Smithwick in 2026

The Smithwick Floating Rattlin' Rogue Bream is a high-decibel powerhouse designed to trigger strikes through sheer vibration. I found that the internal rattle does a phenomenal job of calling fish in, while the side-to-side rolling motion perfectly mimics a wounded baitfish in distress. Whether you are casting near cover or trolling open water, this jerk bait is an essential tool for spring fishing when shallow-dwelling species are looking up. It works across a wide spectrum of gamefish, from bass and walleyes to stripers and trout. The color patterns are thoughtfully selected to match specific environments, ensuring you have the right visual trigger for the job. It is a reliable, aggressive lure that delivers a big bite for big fish.

Modern plastic lures often lack the soul found in the Smithwick Devil's Horse. This Tiger Roan version stands out because of its classic handcrafted wood design, which provides a natural buoyancy and movement that synthetic materials simply cannot replicate. During my testing, the surface churning propellers created just the right amount of commotion to trigger aggressive strikes. To get the most out of this 3/8 oz lure, you really need to employ a stop-and-go motion rather than a constant retrieve. This rhythmic pause allows the wood to settle and dance, making it an essential tool for anglers targeting surface feeders. It is a beautifully made piece of gear that brings a traditional feel to a modern tackle box.

The frantic, rhythmic splashing of the dual propellers creates an irresistible surface disturbance that practically begs a predator to strike. This Smithwick Devil's Horse is a legitimate tournament weapon, frequently credited as the winning lure on southern weigh-in stages for a reason. The yellow and black striper pattern works wonders, but the real magic lies in the adjustable propellers. You can bend them back for a stealthy, quiet retrieve or leave them out to churn the water and slow your presentation down. Because this lure creates massive action without needing to travel far across the surface, you can tease a stubborn largemouth or smallmouth for an extended period. It is a specialized tool that turns a cautious fish into an aggressive striker.

Serious freshwater anglers hunting aggressive predators need the Smithwick Rogue Jr in their tackle box to master the art of the pause. This minnow-style jerkbait is a masterclass in technical engineering, utilizing a unique counter-balance weighting system that ensures it runs true whether you are casting or trolling. The Chrome/Blue Back/Orange Belly colorway looks incredibly natural in the water, especially with the exclusive realistic scale pattern and striking red 3-D eyes. At 4 1/8 inches, it strikes the perfect balance for targeting fish at an 8-10 foot depth. It is rare to find a lure that is designed to suspend perfectly right out of the package, but this Rogue model delivers consistent, reliable action every single time you work it.

The morning mist is still clinging to the lake surface when you throttle up to 2 mph, watching the Smithwick Rogue-C-Town dance through the water. This 5 1/2-inch lure is a specialized tool designed to hunt in the top 20 feet, utilizing a large tungsten rattle to send out a distinct feeding call that predators can't ignore. Whether you are targeting walleye, pike, salmon, or lakers, the aggressive action and incredible wiggle at slow speeds create a high-energy presentation. It feels substantial in the water at 5/8 ounces, and the #4 treble hooks are ready to turn those reactive strikes into actual catches. It is a reliable, high-action choice for any troller looking to trigger an attack from deep-water hunters.

Tournament anglers chasing trophy-sized largemouth deserve a lure that can actually handle the pressure of a high-stakes weigh-in. The Smithwick Devil's Horse is a legendary topwater tool that has earned its reputation by consistently delivering winning catches in southern tournaments. What sets this 3/8 oz white and black striped lure apart is its ability to create massive action without needing to travel far across the water's surface. This allows you to tease a stubborn fish for an extended period, working it until it finally commits to the strike. You can even customize the performance by adjusting the front and tail propellers. Bend them back for a stealthy, quiet retrieve, or leave them out to throw more water and slow down the tempo. It is equally effective for smallmouth in clear streams throughout the year.
