Best Whatstem in 2026

The WHATSTEM Dragon Painting Kit turns a simple afternoon into a full-scale fantasy world-building session. Instead of just coloring flat surfaces, kids get to work with highly detailed dragon and monster figurines that actually feel three-dimensional under the brush. The inclusion of a 3D jigsaw puzzle castle is the real game-changer here, allowing the finished creatures to inhabit a custom-built scene rather than just sitting on a shelf. I particularly liked the addition of the golden paint, which adds a professional, magical finish to the final ornaments. Since the paints are water-based and washable, the cleanup is much less stressful for parents, making this a solid STEM-focused gift for any creative tween.

A massive, unpainted Triceratops sits at the center of this kit, waiting for a splash of color to bring its prehistoric scales to life. This whatstem set is far more substantial than your average coloring activity. It provides a complete ecosystem including eleven other dinosaur varieties, a volcanic rock, and even a dinosaur egg. I love that it includes everything from palettes to brushes, so you can dive straight into a Jurassic creative session without running to the supply closet. The PVC figures are meticulously carved with fine details that make painting feel rewarding rather than frustrating. It is a brilliant way to bridge the gap between simple play and genuine artistic skill-building, resulting in durable, displayable models that kids can actually be proud of.

Aspiring little architects and STEM-focused parents need this specific set to turn floor time into a high-level engineering workshop. The Magna-Tiles 32-Piece Clear Colors Set moves far beyond basic blocks by using translucent, colorful shapes that snap together with satisfying magnetic precision. I found that the variety of geometry here is impressive. You aren't just stuck with squares, but have a healthy mix of equilateral, right, and isosceles triangles to build complex 3D structures. Because the tiles are transparent, they catch the light beautifully, adding a layer of visual magic to whatever child dreams up. It is a durable, tactile investment that bridges the gap between imaginative play and foundational math and science skills for kids aged three and up.

Your desk or bookshelf just found its new favorite centerpiece. This LEGO BrickHeadz set captures the iconic bond between The Mandalorian and The Child with surprising character detail for such compact models. I was particularly impressed by how the Mandalorian feels complete with his signature blaster rifle clipped to his back and a pistol held ready in hand. The Child is equally charming, featuring adjustable ears that let you switch up his expression, and his hoverpram actually looks like it is floating thanks to those clever transparent elements. Since both figures come with their own baseplates, they are incredibly easy to display without cluttering your space. It is a punchy, high-impact build that serves as a perfect tribute for any Star Wars collector.
