When you bring a newborn home, the details of their sleep environment become your primary focus. While the bassinet itself provides the structure, the sheets provide the tactile experience that affects your baby's comfort and skin health. Joey + Joan has carved out a niche for parents seeking a blend of aesthetic charm and functional safety. However, choosing the right sheets isn't just about picking a pretty print. It's about understanding fabric integrity, fit security, and the long-term durability required for the frequent washing cycles that come with life with a newborn.

A Guide to Selecting the Best joey + joan bassinet sheets
Prioritize Fabric Composition and Breathability
The most critical factor in selecting bassinet sheets is the material. Because infants cannot regulate their body temperature as effectively as adults, the breathability of the fabric is paramount. When browsing the Joey + Joan collection, look for high-quality cotton or organic cotton blends. Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic and allows for airflow, which helps prevent overheating during sleep. Avoid synthetic blends that feel overly slick or 'silky' if they don't offer high breathability, as these can trap heat against the baby's skin. A soft, matte finish is often a sign of a high-quality natural fiber that will become even softer with every wash.
Focus on the 'Snugness' of the Fit
Safety in a bassinet is non-negotiable. A sheet that is too loose can bunch up, creating potential hazards, while a sheet that is too tight might put undue pressure on the mattress corners. When evaluating these sheets, look for deep, elasticized edges. The elastic should be robust enough to grip the mattress firmly, ensuring the sheet stays taut even when the baby moves slightly. A well-fitted sheet should feel like a second skin to the mattress, with no visible sagging or loose fabric in the center of the sleeping surface.
Consider Print Longevity and Aesthetic Versatility
Joey + Joan is known for its curated, often whimsical designs. When selecting a pattern, consider whether you want a 'statement' sheet that stands out in a nursery or a neutral pattern that complements various decor changes. From a practical standpoint, busier prints—such as florals, geometric shapes, or animal motifs—are excellent at masking small stains or minor spills that are inevitable in the early months. If you prefer a minimalist look, ensure the fabric quality is exceptionally high, as any imperfections in a solid-colored sheet will be more noticeable.
Durability and Maintenance Requirements
Newborn life involves a constant cycle of laundry. You need sheets that can withstand frequent high-temperature washes to kill bacteria and remove organic stains without losing their shape or color vibrancy. Check the care instructions. Ideally, you want fabrics that are machine washable and dryer safe. Avoid sheets that require delicate handling or specialized detergents, as this adds unnecessary stress to your daily routine. Look for 'pre-shrunk' labels or high-quality weaves that are designed to maintain their dimensions after multiple trips through the laundry.
The Multi-Pack Strategy
Because accidents happen—whether it's a diaper leak or a spit-up incident—we rarely recommend buying just one set. The most efficient way to shop for these sheets is to look for bundles or to purchase at least three individual sets. This ensures you always have one on the bassinet, one in the laundry, and one in the linen closet ready for immediate use. This rotation not only keeps your baby sleeping on clean surfaces but also allows the fibers of each sheet time to rest and recover between washes, extending the overall lifespan of your investment.
