A Guide to Selecting the Best allgobee business cards
Understanding Paper Weight and Texture
The most immediate way a recipient judges a business card is through touch. This is often referred to as 'hand feel.' When browsing options, pay close attention to the GSM (grams per square meter) or the 'pt' thickness. A standard business card is typically around 300-350 GSM, which feels professional but lightweight. However, if you are in a high-stakes industry like law, finance, or luxury real estate, you may want to opt for premium, heavy-duty cardstock (400+ GSM). A thicker card resists bending and feels substantial in the hand, signaling stability and premium quality. Additionally, consider the texture. A matte finish offers a modern, sophisticated look that is easy to read under bright lights, while a glossy finish can make colors pop and protect against minor moisture or fingerprints.
Design Layout and Legibility
A common mistake in business card selection is prioritizing aesthetics over utility. While a minimalist design can be striking, your contact information must remain the hero of the card. When selecting your layout, ensure there is enough 'white space' to prevent the card from looking cluttered. High-contrast color schemes are essential. For example, dark text on a light background is much easier to read than gold foil on a cream background. If you are designing a card with a complex background pattern, ensure that your name and phone number are placed in a clear area to maintain legibility. Remember, if a potential client can't read your email address in three seconds, the card has failed its primary purpose.
Finishing Touches: Foil, UV, and Beyond
To truly differentiate yourself, look into specialized finishing options. Spot UV coating is a popular choice where a glossy layer is applied only to specific elements, such as your logo, creating a striking contrast against a matte background. If you want a more traditional sense of luxury, foil stamping can add a metallic sheen that catches the light beautifully. For those in creative fields like graphic design or photography, consider rounded corners to soften the profile of the card and prevent the edges from fraying in a wallet. These small technical details can transform a standard card into a memorable keepsake.
Matching the Card to Your Industry
Your decision logic should be rooted in your specific professional niche. A creative director might benefit from unconventional shapes, bold colors, and unique textures that showcase artistic flair. Conversely, a corporate consultant should lean toward classic proportions, subdued color palettes, and high-quality, heavy cardstock that screams reliability. Before finalizing your order, ask yourself: 'Does this card reflect the service I provide?' If you sell high-end, expensive services, your card should not feel flimsy or cheap. Aligning your physical media with your professional persona is the key to successful networking.

Double-sided is highly recommended. Use the front for essential contact details and the back for your logo, a QR code, or a minimalist brand statement.
Always maintain a 'safe zone' by keeping all important text and logos at least 0.125 inches away from the edge of the card to account for trimming variances.
Absolutely. A QR code bridges the gap between physical and digital, allowing clients to instantly save your contact info or visit your portfolio.
Keep your primary contact information between 8pt and 10pt. Anything smaller may become illegible, while anything larger can look cluttered and amateurish.
