A Guide to Selecting the Best tessco drinking jars
Prioritize Material Durability and Clarity
The first decision you must make is the material. Most high-quality drinking jars fall into two categories: glass and high-grade plastics (such as BPA-free acrylic or Tritan). Glass is the gold standard for purity. It does not leach flavors, is easy to sanitize, and offers a premium weight and clarity that makes colorful infusions look stunning. However, glass is heavy and prone to breakage, making it less ideal for poolside use or camping. If your primary use case involves outdoor activities or high-traffic environments where drops are likely, look for shatter-resistant, food-grade plastics. These offer the visual appeal of glass with the lightweight, durable benefits required for mobile lifestyle use.
Evaluate Capacity and Ergonomics
Drinking jars are often defined by their volume. Before purchasing, consider how much liquid you actually intend to consume in one sitting. A large-capacity jar (often exceeding 24 ounces) is excellent for keeping beverages cold for extended periods due to the volume of ice it can hold, but it can become cumbersome and heavy when full. Conversely, smaller jars are easier to grip and hold for long periods. Pay close attention to the ergonomics of the jar's shape. A tapered waist or a contoured body makes the jar much easier to hold securely, especially if your hands are wet or if you are using the jar while moving around.
Lid Functionality and Seal Integrity
The lid is perhaps the most underrated component of a drinking jar. Depending on your needs, you may want a variety of styles. If you are using the jar for on-the-go hydration, a leak-proof, screw-top lid with a silicone gasket is non-negotiable to prevent spills in bags or car cup holders. For tabletop service or aesthetic displays, a wide-mouth lid or a decorative stopper might be more appropriate. If you plan to use straws, ensure the lid has a dedicated aperture that is wide enough for reusable metal or silicone straws but tight enough to prevent excessive splashing.
Maintenance and Cleaning Requirements
Because drinking jars often feature wide mouths to accommodate ice or fruit infusions, they are generally easier to clean than narrow bottles. However, you should check if the jar and its lid components are dishwasher safe. Certain plastics can cloud or warp in high-heat dishwasher cycles, while some decorative glass coatings may degrade. If the jar has complex lid mechanisms or straw components, ensure they can be disassembled easily for deep cleaning to prevent mold buildup in the crevices.
Recommendation Logic
When making your final selection, use this logic: Choose glass with a wide mouth if your priority is flavor purity and home aesthetics. Opt for heavy-duty, BPA-free plastic if you need a durable companion for travel or outdoor events. Always prioritize a lid that matches your lifestyle—sealable for mobility, or open-access for ease of use at a table.

Quick answers about Tessco Drinking Jars before you buy.
Borosilicate glass is the gold standard because it is highly resistant to thermal shock, meaning it won't crack when switching from ice-cold water to hot tea.
Most glass jars are dishwasher safe, but we recommend checking if they feature silicone sleeves or bamboo lids, as these components should be hand-washed to prevent warping or cracking.
Look for jars equipped with a silicone protective sleeve. This adds a layer of shock absorption and provides a much more secure, non-slip grip.
While many jars feature airtight silicone seals suitable for casual carrying, they are often designed for upright use. Always check if the specific model is rated as 'leak-proof' versus 'splash-resistant' before tossing it in a bag.
Yes, provided the jar is made of borosilicate glass. Standard soda-lime glass may shatter when exposed to sudden temperature changes.
A mixture of baking soda and warm water works wonders for removing tea or coffee stains without scratching the glass surface.
Bamboo is a highly sustainable, biodegradable material. However, ensure the lid has a food-grade silicone seal to maintain hygiene and prevent moisture buildup.
