A Guide to Selecting the Best joey + joan Fitted Sheets
Prioritize Fabric Composition and Breathability
The most critical decision you will make is choosing between their various fabric profiles. If you are a 'hot sleeper' who frequently wakes up feeling overheated, you should lean toward their linen-based options. Linen is naturally thermoregulating, meaning it wicks moisture away from the skin and allows for significant airflow. While linen has a slightly more textured, organic feel initially, it becomes progressively softer with every wash.
Conversely, if you prefer a silky, smooth sensation that feels more traditional to luxury hotel bedding, look for their high-thread-count cotton options. Cotton provides a consistent, crisp feel that is ideal for those who enjoy a structured bed. Understanding the weight of the weave is also essential. A heavier weave offers more durability and a sense of 'enclosure,' while a lighter weave is better for summer months and tropical climates.
Assess the Fit and Corner Security
A fitted sheet is only as good as its ability to stay in place. There is nothing more disruptive to sleep than a sheet that bunches up or slips off the corner of the mattress in the middle of the night. When evaluating joey + joan sheets, pay close attention to the depth of the pocket. If you utilize a thick memory foam topper or a pillow-top mattress, you must ensure the sheet's elasticated edges are deep enough to wrap fully underneath the mattress base.
Look for sheets that feature reinforced stitching around the corners. A high-quality fitted sheet should feel taut across the surface of the mattress, providing a flat, wrinkle-resistant foundation for your flat sheet or duvet. If your mattress has particularly sharp corners, the elasticity of the band is the deciding factor in whether the sheet remains secure throughout the night.
Color Longevity and Aesthetic Integration
Because joey + joan focuses on a sophisticated, often muted color palette, you should consider how these tones will interact with your existing bedding. Since fitted sheets are often partially tucked under a duvet, the color choice can serve as a subtle accent or a bold foundational element.
Keep in mind that natural fibers like linen can undergo slight color shifts over time due to repeated washing and sun exposure. If you are looking for a color that remains extremely consistent and sharp, lighter or more neutral tones are often more forgiving. For those seeking a cohesive, monochromatic bedroom look, matching your fitted sheet to your pillowcases can create a sense of intentional, high-end design.
Maintenance and Longevity Expectations
Finally, consider your lifestyle and laundry habits. Linen requires a bit more attention—it may need a quick tumble dry to soften the fibers or a light steam to remove natural creasing. Cotton sheets are generally more straightforward to maintain but can be prone to shrinking if washed in excessively high temperatures. When investing in premium sheets, the goal is to choose a product that matures with you. A well-chosen joey + joan sheet should not just look good on day one, but should actually improve in hand-feel after six months of regular use.
