Days to Maturity: 75 from direct sow For more than 125 years, gardeners have been growing Basil Lettuce Leaf. It's simply the most productive variety, with giant leaves on bushy, vigorous plants. The aroma is enticing, and the flavor is more sweet than spicy, a gentle mild bite that the whole family will love. You're going to love this popular favorite!

Basil Lettuce Leaf earns its name with big, slightly serrated and crinkled leaves up to 4 inches wide and 6 inches long. Very closely set on well-branched plants 18 to 24 inches high, they keep coming all season—just pinch off the flower buds as they form, and Lettuce Leaf will keep growing more foliage.

About those flowers, though—Lettuce Leaf is slow to bolt, so you'll get a longer season of harvest. And as you pinch off the blooms, save them—they make delicious additions to salads and yummy garnish for the plate.

Use this basil for pesto, sandwiches, and casseroles. You'll have plenty to dry and crumble for the spice rack, and you'll be amazed at how many new ways you can find to use the fresh leaves—they make great faux lettuce for sandwiches, add a tangy bite when layered into lasagne and other Neopolitan dishes, and serve as wraps for appetizers. Combine them with mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, and a dash of balsamic vinegar, and you have the perfect refreshing summer snack.

Like all aromatic plants, Basil Lettuce Leaf is a natural pest repellant in the garden. Surround vulnerable plants with it, or scatter it throughout the annual bed or cutting garden, so that it can share both its fragrance and its pest-fighting ability with the whole planting. And be sure to pot up a few Lettuce Leaf plants to perfume the deck for outdoor dining. Enjoy this fantastic heirloom.

The new standard for large Marigolds has arrived, and its name is Whopper! Available only from Park, this sturdy, long-blooming Marigold boasts fully double blooms a mind-boggling 4 inches across. Not since the old Inca (now discontinued) have blooms even approaching this size been available -- and Park's Whopper holds its double flower form all season, unlike many crash-and-burn giants!

These bright orange flowers are simply stuffed with short, quilled petals, so symmetrical and beautifully rounded that they scarcely look real! A closely-spaced planting of Park's Whopper is a real delight, because when the plants begin blooming, you literally have a solid wall of flowers -- no foliage or ground visible in between!

Park Seed Giant Exhibition Complete Mix Coleus Seeds, Popular Colorful Houseplants, Pack Of 20 Seeds

PARK SEED

JPPA INC 9.54

Features

The Victorians were Coleus addicts -- so much so that, at the height of this plant's popularity, there was said to be a "Coleus craze" sweeping the populace! Looking at these reselected varieties from the heyday of the Coleus craze, it's easy to see why they were so popular!

In this mix you get large foliage on small plants. Most of the leaves are 6 to 7 inches long and 4 inches wide, yet the plants are very compact -- 12 to 15 inches high and wide! They arise in all the colors for which Coleus is known -- burgundy, scarlet, maroon, bronze, cream, pink, and white -- and sporting interesting touches, such as neatly-serrated edges or dramatic veining. You will love these old-fashioned beauties, reselected for modern vigor and terrific garden or container performance!

Originally selected as houseplants, the Coleus in this mix are also fine specimens in the shade garden, and are just the right size for containers. They are also fabulous in a mass planting!

Coleus germinates readily and grows eagerly. For bushier, fuller plants, keep the growing tips pinched.

To extend the lush color into fall, remove any stray flower spikes that emerge -- they take energy away from maintaining the gorgeous foliage, and the flowers are insignificant. If growing in the garden, sow about 12 inches apart. If growing indoors for houseplants, sow at any time, placing the young plants in a well-lit window.

Park Seed Zinnia Zinderella Lilac, Pack Of 25 Seeds

JPPA INC 9.53

Features

Fleuroselect Novelty Award Winner 2014 The Zinderella family of zinnias burst onto the scene when peach won Europe's Fleuroselect Novelty Award for its unique color and very unusual flower form.

Known as scabiosa blooms for their resemblance to pincushion flower (scabiosa), these double blooms are eye-catching from way down the street, and boast so many layers of petals they are often as "tall" as they are wide.

Zinderella Lilac' offers big crested pompon blooms of bright lilac with a delicate cream "halo" around the central eye. Reaching 2 to 3 inches wide, these blooms boast a pompon of tightly-clustered short petals above a skirt of longer, daisylike petals. During warm days and warm nights, you will see 10-15-20% single flowers. When day and night temperatures differ, double blooms will appear. Very distinctive.

And like all zinnias, Zinderella is long-lasting in garden or vase. The blooms attract pollinators that can help vegetable crops and other flowering varieties, so scatter your zinnias where you like—they help the whole garden.

One of the very easiest annuals to grow from seed, zinnia can be direct sown into the warm spring soil of the annual bed or begun indoors in the Bio Dome. It grows in a flash and blooms heavily. A "cut-and-come-again" annual, it sets new buds as soon as the old flowers are cut or deadheaded, so it repeats reliably all summer.

Park Seed Powwow Wild Berry Coneflower Seeds, Echinacea Seeds, Pink Coneflower, Flower Seeds

JPPA INC 9.54

Features

No wonder PowWow Wild Berry won an All-America Selection Award 2010 (continues to pile up honors). It's not only the most brilliantly colored Echinacea yet, but it's also the best branched, which means more flowers all season. It doesn't need to be deadheaded to set new buds, so the flowers just keep coming. It's compact, you can grow it in a container, or squeeze it into that crowded sunny border. Oh, & did we mention that it blooms the first year, just 20 weeks from sowing the seed.

It's truly a breakthrough for the Echinacea purpurea family. The bloom color is fade-proof and absolutely unique. (The flowers make terrific everlastings as well as fresh-cut bouquets, by the way.) The flowers are so profuse on these compact little plants, beginning in early summer & then going right into fall until nipped back by frost. Like all echinacea, PowWow Wild Berry attracts butterflies & bees to the fresh blooms in summer & birds to the seed-filled cones in autumn & winter.

This plant reaches just 20 to 24 inches high when not in bloom, and spreads 12 to 16 inches wide. Despite this small size, it bears more blooms than just about any other echinacea we've ever grown. The flowers add another 9 to 12 inches to the plant's height, giving you thick, long lasting stems for the vase. And you don't have to keep up with pinching off the fading blooms.

Adaptable to just about any climate in the United States and indifferent to extremes of heat, humidity, cold, and even drought, PowWow Wild Berry thrives in any well-drained soil. It will bloom best in full sun and good garden soil that dries out just a bit between waterings', but it can take almost any conditions your garden and Mother Nature throws its way.

The most exciting feature of this seed is its ability to bloom profusely, the first summer from a winter to early spring sowing. For best first-year flowering, sow the seeds right after you receive them, especially if you live in a short-season climate. Germinate at about 65 to 70 F, then grown on (after they have sprouted) at 55 to 65 F. When they have 2 sets of true leaves & the garden soil is warm enough to work with, they are ready to transplant into the sunny garden.

Park Seed Night And Day Snapdragon Seeds, Pack Of 100 Seeds

JPPA INC 9.54

Features

One of the most striking Snapdragons we have ever seen, Night and Day is a bold study in contrast. The deep scarlet blooms shade almost into black, revealing their parentage (the famous heirloom Snap, Black Prince) and highlighting the pure white of the lower "jaws." Absolutely stunning!

The plant grows 18 inches tall and about a foot wide, blooming in spring and fall in warm climates and all summer in cooler ones. The blooms have a strong spicy scent and arise very abundantly on robust plants.

For an interesting effect, try interplanting Night and Day with its parent, Black Prince, which has deep crimson blooms and bronze foliage (and is the same plant size).

If you have never "snapped" a Snapdragon, here is how to do it: You'll notice that the blooms form two separate cupped clusters that meet in the middle, like jaws. Gently squeeze the sides of the jaws, and the two clusters will separate, just like a mouth opening.

Seeds may be direct-sown or started indoors for earlier blooms. Snaps are cool-season annuals that bloom in spring and fall in warm areas, summer in colder climates. In very warm locations they may winter over if mulched. They do best in full sun to light shade.

Features

Flirty Skirts is "the" container pansy in Europe, and will create a sensation in your garden, too.

Ruffles and smiling faces are the hallmarks of this fantastic European variety, one of our classic favorites for many seasons now. These cheerful 2 inch blooms are 100% ruffled, as compared to older varieties where the ruffles tend to be erratic and scarce. And the flowers turn upward instead of nodding, giving you a much showier display than larger flowered types that shyly hide their faces.

Mix Includes Two Color Blends: Blue: Offers a bright confection of white, yellow, and various shades of purple and blue. Burgundy: Combines deep reddish-purple and blue with jet-black markings.

These blooms seem larger than they really are, thanks to the ruffling, which adds texture and depth to the display. Expect them to appear heavily in spring, fall, and winter in mild and warm climates, and from spring 'til hard frost farther North.

Flirty Skirts starts blooming earlier than older pansies, too. Very well-branched and compact, this vigorous little plant begins setting buds faster than most others, and just doesn't seem to know how to stop. It's great in containers, but also looks fine in the annual bed, reaching just 6 inches wide and, when not in bloom, 6 inches high. The abundant flowers add another 3 to 6 inches to its side, spilling merrily in all directions. Very attractive and so easy.

JPPA INC 9.54

Features

In 4 vibrant shades, these big semi- to fully-double flowers arise all along tall, sturdy stalks beginning just 4 months from sowing. An annual Summer Carnival Hollyhock is a long-blooming, very colorful series so garden-worthy that it received an AAS award. Tall and stately, it blooms all summer for a rich display of big powderpuff blossoms in every shade of pink, rose, red, and yellow.

The 4-inch blooms are richly hued, and will not fade in the summer sun. Superb for cutting, they open from the bottom of the stalk upwards, keeping you in fresh blooms for weeks on end. And this stunning series sets its blooms even lower on the stalk than most hollyhocks, for a little more color on every stalk.

Easy to grow in full sun and almost any well-drained soil, this annual really takes off with a top-dressing of cow manure.

These plants have colorful bloom spikes for the back of a border, in screens, against a fence or wall alongside gateposts, or framing an entryway. Hollyhocks may be tall (4-6 feet) or dwarf (about 2 feet). They have stiff stems, maple-like foliage and, in summer, spikes of single or double blooms, 3-6 inches wide, in all colors (except blue). Old-fashioned types display bell-shaped petals, while modern types are more often fringed, ruffled, or doubled

Features

What a joy—big, wide-open Hollyhock blooms in clear shades of white, yellow, red, purple, and pink with Happy Lights Hollyhock Mix. Single-flowered Hollyhocks are hard to find these days, and rust-resistant varieties harder still. But this improved mix not only gives you radiant color and plenty of it, but is also a tall, rust-free, ready-to-bloom plant just made for the back of the border, the garage or barn wall, and other show-off spots. No wonder it won Europe's highest seed award.

Happy Lights Hollyhock Mix is a bold blend of white, pink, purple, red, and yellow blooms, each measuring about 3 inches apart and arising all along 5- to 7-foot stalks. This Hollyhock is no shrinking Violet—it shoots up tall and fast, with a long season of color-drenched blooms you can see from down the street. (Maybe they should have called it "Happy Searchlights" instead.)

Sow the seeds in February for blooms the first summer, or in July and August for next year. Happy Lights Hollyhock Mix thrives in any good garden soil (even dry ones) provided it's well-drained and exposed to full sunshine. Best of all, Happy Lights Hollyhock Mix is more resistant to rust than most any other Hollyhock. I would've said Country Garden couldn't be improved, but boy oh boy, Happy Lights has proved me wrong. You'll love the difference.

The blooms arise in early and midsummer, and appreciate a good heavy feeding both before and during bloomtime. Space Happy Lights Hollyhock plants about 2 to 3 feet apart for a solid line of brilliant color.
