Best Relaxed Fit Mens Athletic Shorts in 2026

After weeks of use during intensive summer sports camps, these Liberty Imports mesh shorts have proven to be a reliable staple for active boys. The lightweight, fast-drying fabric is a game changer for kids who are constantly moving between basketball drills and running around outside. I particularly like the 9-inch inseam, which hits just above the knee to provide a wide range of motion without feeling restrictive. The elastic waistband paired with an internal drawcord ensures they stay secure during high-intensity play, while the printed tags eliminate that annoying itchiness often found in cheaper activewear. With five pairs in a single pack, they offer plenty of rotation for daily workouts or casual everyday wear.

Most gym shorts force you to choose between flimsy fabric that tears during heavy squats or bulky materials that trap heat, but BROKIG has engineered a middle ground that actually performs. I found the strengthened crotch stitching particularly impressive during high-intensity movements like cycling and leg days, providing peace of mind that the seams won't give out. The fit is intelligently designed with regular thighs to prevent skin irritation, while the half-back elastic waistband keeps everything securely in place during sprints. Storage is where these really shine. The combination of a deep left phone pocket and a secure, hidden zipper pocket on the right means you can actually run without your essentials bouncing around or falling out. They feel lightweight and skin-friendly, making them just as viable for casual daily wear as they are for a heavy lifting session.

Serious lifters and high-intensity athletes need the Anthem Athletics Hyperflex shorts to eliminate the distraction of poorly fitted gear. After putting these through several sessions, the polyester and spandex blend feels incredibly responsive, providing the stretch necessary for deep squats or yoga transitions without losing shape. The 5-inch inseam offers a modern, athletic cut that sits well above the knee, ensuring nothing gets in the way of your stride during sprints. I was particularly impressed by the angled YKK zipper pockets. They keep your phone and essentials completely secure and tucked away during explosive movements like burpees or WODs. With flat-lock stitching and a reliable drawstring waistband, these shorts are built to handle the friction and sweat of a heavy training circuit.

High-intensity lifters and CrossFit enthusiasts demand gear that won't fail during a heavy WOD, and these Anthem Athletics Hyperflex shorts are built specifically for that level of grit. I was particularly impressed by the mobility provided by the polyester and spandex blend. The flat-lock stitching prevents that annoying chafing during deep squats or yoga flows. The 9-inch inseam offers a more traditional coverage that hits right at the knee, making them ideal for those who prefer less exposure. One of the smartest design choices is the angled YKK zipper pocket, which keeps your phone securely tucked away without feeling bulky or obstructing your movement. Between the moisture-wicking fabric and the adjustable drawstring waistband, these feel like a reliable staple for any serious training rotation.

The mesh fabric provides excellent breathability, making them a go-to for intense bodybuilding sessions or even just hiking. They feature a hidden zipper pocket that actually keeps your essentials secure, along with two additional pockets for convenience. Just a heads-up: these are designed with an athletic, snug fit through the thighs. The performance blend is incredibly soft and stretchy, making them a breeze to wear during heavy lifting sessions or yoga flows. The 9-inch inseam hits right at the knee for a modern athletic fit that feels intentional rather than baggy. What really sets these apart, though, is the security of the YKK side zipper pockets. Drawing inspiration from East Coast surf and skate culture, these shorts utilize a midweight 60/40 cotton-polyester french terry that feels incredibly soft against the skin. While they generally fit true to size, you might consider sizing up if you prefer a looser feel. These are a fantastic choice for any golfer looking to stand out in style.

Most runners settle for shorts that chafe or feel heavy once the sweat starts pouring, but the New Balance Impact Run shorts are engineered to stay light and dry.
