Measuring roughly 8 inches, it is the perfect size for adding a pop of color to a dorm bed, office chair, or living room sofa. I love the dual-sided design. The most critical factor in selecting a pillow is the 'loft,' which refers to the height or thickness of the pillow. Loft is not a one-size-fits-all metric. It must be matched to your primary sleeping position. Side sleepers generally require a higher loft to fill the gap between the ear and the shoulder, ensuring the neck remains straight. Conversely, stomach sleepers benefit from a low-profile, thin loft to prevent the head from being pushed backward at an unnatural angle. Back sleepers sit in the middle, typically requiring a medium loft that provides a gentle contour for the cervical spine without causing chin-to-chest compression.
Material Composition and Feel
The internal filling dictates how the pillow feels and how long it will last. You will generally encounter three main categories: shredded memory foam, solid memory foam, and down alternatives. Shredded memory foam is highly popular because it offers the best of both worlds—the pressure relief of memory foam with the breathability and adjustability of a traditional pillow. This allows you to manually add or remove filling to achieve your ideal height. Solid memory foam provides maximum support and contouring but can sometimes feel 'stiff' or trap heat. Down alternatives use synthetic fibers to mimic the loft and softness of feathers without the allergens or the tendency to clump, making them ideal for those with sensitivities.
Temperature Regulation and Breathability
A common complaint with memory foam products is heat retention. If you are a 'hot sleeper,' you must look for pillows designed with airflow in mind. Look for features such as gel-infused foams, which help dissipate body heat, or open-cell structures that allow air to circulate through the filling. Furthermore, the cover material plays a massive role in thermal regulation. A breathable, moisture-wicking cover—such as those made from bamboo or high-quality cotton—will prevent the pillow from feeling sweaty by midnight. Avoid heavy, non-breathable synthetic covers if you struggle with night sweats.
Durability and Maintenance
A premium pillow should maintain its shape for several years. When evaluating durability, consider the density of the filling. Low-density pillows tend to flatten quickly, losing their supportive properties within months. Additionally, consider the ease of maintenance. Many high-quality modern pillows feature removable, machine-washable covers, which is vital for hygiene. Some shredded foam models also allow you to wash the filling itself, providing a much longer lifecycle than traditional pillows that must be replaced once they lose their bounce.
Decision Logic Summary
To make your final choice, follow this logic: First, identify your sleeping position to determine your required loft. Second, decide if you prefer a 'sink-in' feeling (down alternative) or a 'contouring' feeling (memory foam). Third, check for cooling technologies if you run hot. Finally, prioritize adjustability. A pillow that allows you to customize the internal volume is the safest bet for long-term comfort.

Quick answers about Franco Pillows before you buy.
Franco pillows are known for their specialized construction, often utilizing high-density memory foam or advanced fiber fills designed to maintain loft and shape longer than budget alternatives.
Side sleepers should look for Franco models with a higher loft and firmer support, typically those utilizing supportive memory foam layers to fill the gap between the neck and the shoulder.
Most Franco pillow collections are engineered with hypoallergenic materials and breathable covers to minimize the buildup of allergens like dust mites.
If you feel pressure points on your ears or jaw when lying down, the pillow is likely too firm. For a softer feel, opt for their down-alternative or shredded foam options.
This depends on the specific model. While many fiber-fill versions are machine washable, memory foam models usually require spot cleaning to prevent the core from breaking down.
While all pillows eventually lose loft, Franco's premium lines are specifically designed with high-resiliency materials to resist flattening compared to standard polyester pillows.
Stomach sleepers should prioritize their low-profile, softer models to prevent the neck from being pushed upward at an unnatural angle.
With proper care, a premium Franco pillow should maintain its structural integrity and support for approximately 2 to 3 years.
