Best Kobalt String Trimmers in 2026

The Kobalt 80-Volt Max 16-in Straight Cordless String Trimmer delivers heavy-duty brushless power that rivals gas-powered competitors. While testing this unit, the sheer torque from the motor made short work of overgrown, thick grass patches that usually stall lesser cordless tools. You get a solid 60 minutes of runtime from the included 2.5 Ah battery, which is plenty for most standard residential yards. I particularly liked the versatility of the adjustable cutting width. Switching between 14-in and 16-in allows you to tailor your speed to the task at hand. Maintenance is also a breeze thanks to the rapid reload head that feeds more line with a simple tap. It even arrives with two different line sizes to ensure you are ready to work immediately.

Most homeowners settle for weak, battery-draining trimmers that struggle with anything thicker than manicured lawn grass, but the Kobalt 40-Volt Max changes the math for medium-sized yards. I found that the gear-reduced motor provides a surprising amount of torque, making it much more capable of tackling half-acre properties than your standard cordless unit. The standout feature for me is the ability to toggle between a 13-inch and 15-inch cutting swath. You can widen it to finish a job quickly or narrow it to stretch your battery life when you're running low. Paired with the heavy-duty 0.080-in dual line and a simple bump head, this tool handles tough weeds without constant stalling. It feels like a professional-grade solution for anyone tired of fighting with low-power electric tools.

The Kobalt 80-Volt Max String Trimmer delivers professional-grade torque thanks to its high-performance brushless motor. This second-generation tool is a perfect addition to your existing Kobalt ecosystem, though keep in mind it is a bare tool that requires your own 80v battery and charger. I found the adjustable cutting width incredibly versatile. You can toggle between 14-inch and 16-inch widths depending on how quickly you need to clear an area. The rapid reload head is a massive time-saver, allowing for a simple tap to feed more line when things get heavy. With the hi/lo speed selection and an on-board battery indicator, you maintain total control over your workload and power management throughout the job.

Most homeowners assume they need to buy a brand-new kit every time they upgrade their yard tools, but this Kobalt bare tool approach is actually a smarter way to scale your equipment. By focusing solely on the trimmer, you can leverage the 40V batteries you already own to tackle yards up to a half-acre without unnecessary spending. I found the dual-speed variable trigger incredibly helpful for precision work, especially when switching between the 13-inch and 15-inch cutting swaths to balance speed and runtime. The heavy-duty 0.080-in dual line feeds through a bump head with ease, meaning you won't be struggling through thick weeds all afternoon. It is a specialized, high-performance addition to an existing battery ecosystem rather than a standalone starter set.

The Greenworks PRO 16-Inch 80V Cordless String Trimmer delivers gas-equivalent power without the hassle of fuel. We were particularly impressed by the Digital Pro brushless motor, which mimics the performance of a 32cc gas engine while remaining significantly quieter and cleaner. It handles thick edges with ease, and the easy load head makes refilling the trimmer line a breeze rather than a chore. Keep in mind that this is a tool-only purchase, so you will need to pair it with compatible 80V batteries and chargers like the GBA80200 or GBA80400. If you already own the Greenworks 80V ecosystem, the 30-minute rapid charge capability means you can get back to your yard work almost immediately.

Most people assume buying a new trimmer means a massive upfront investment in batteries, but this 2nd Generation Kobalt model is actually a strategic expansion for existing owners. By stripping away the battery and charger, Kobalt keeps the price point accessible for anyone already invested in their 80-volt ecosystem. The brushless motor is the real star here, providing the heavy-duty torque needed to slice through thick, overgrown grass without stalling. I particularly liked the versatility of the adjustable cutting width. Switching between 14-inch and 16-inch modes allows you to tailor your speed to the task at hand. Plus, the rapid reload head is a lifesaver, letting you feed more line with a simple tap so you can keep moving.

Homeowners looking to ditch the gas fumes without sacrificing cutting power need this Kobalt 80-Volt Max trimmer in their tool shed immediately. I was particularly impressed by the fact that this specific unit is a certified refurbished model, meaning it has undergone rigorous functionality testing and cleaning to ensure it performs like a brand-new tool. You get the high-efficiency benefits of a brushless motor paired with a reliable 2.0-Ah battery and charger right out of the box. While it might arrive in a generic box rather than fancy retail packaging, the actual performance of the 16-inch straight shaft design remains top-tier for maintaining clean edges and tackling overgrown grass. It is a smart, budget-conscious way to upgrade your lawn care arsenal with professional-grade cordless technology.

Tackling a half-acre yard filled with thick, overgrown weeds feels significantly less daunting when you have the torque of a gear-reduced motor behind you. I put the Kobalt 40-Volt Max to the test, and the heavy-duty 0.080-in dual line is a genuine standout, slicing through tough vegetation without the constant frustration of thin line snapping. The variable speed trigger gives you precise control, which is vital when you need to switch from high-speed clearing to delicate edging. I particularly liked the ability to adjust the cutting swath between 13 and 15 inches. Widening it for speed or narrowing it to stretch out your battery life is a clever touch. With a quick 75-minute charge time, you spend more time trimming and less time waiting by the outlet.

You are kneeling by a stubborn patch of thick weeds tucked tightly under a backyard deck when you realize a standard trimmer just won't reach. This Kobalt 40V Max straight shaft trimmer is designed specifically for those awkward, tight corners where precision is non-negotiable. Because the shaft is straight, you can easily navigate under obstacles, while the wrap-around handle makes transitioning into edging mode feel seamless. I found the variable speed trigger particularly helpful. You can dial back the power for delicate flower beds or crank it up for heavy growth. The dual 0.065 inch auto-feed line is a massive time-saver since it handles thick vegetation without the constant frustration of manual bumping. Just remember that this is the tool-only version, so you will need your existing Kobalt 40V battery and charger to get started.

This Greenworks Pro trimmer line set is a reliable staple for any lawn care kit that prioritizes efficiency and ease of use. Instead of wrestling with massive, heavy spools, you get 16-foot pre-cut lengths that make reloading your trimmer incredibly fast. The 0.095-inch twisted design is a smart touch, as the texture helps the line cut through thick grass and edges with much less resistance. While it is branded under the Greenworks Pro line, the universal fit is the real winner here, meaning you can swap these into almost any string trimmer you currently own without compatibility headaches. At this price point, it is an easy way to keep your landscaping tools performing at their peak during the growing season.

Homeowners tired of the noise and maintenance of gas engines will find this Greenworks 40V trimmer to be a total game-changer for their yard work. I was impressed by how quickly the brushless motor kicks in, providing a level of torque that rivals traditional gas models without the headache of pull-starts or oily fuel mixes. Because it is attachment capable, you aren't just buying a trimmer. You are investing in a versatile system that grows with your landscaping needs. The included 4.0Ah battery provides reliable runtime, and since it shares a platform with other Greenworks tools, it integrates seamlessly into an existing ecosystem. It is a quiet, efficient, and highly adaptable solution for anyone looking to modernize their lawn care routine.
