Best Retekess Portable Shortwave Radios in 2026

Digital precision often fails where a massive, telescopic antenna and analog dials succeed. The Retekess TR604 leans into this classic approach, offering a robust 23.62-inch antenna that makes locking onto distant AM signals in rural areas surprisingly easy. I found the 2W speaker powerful enough to fill a kitchen or living room, which is a huge win for seniors who might struggle with tinny, low-volume devices. It’s a versatile companion because you can switch from AC power for your office to three D batteries for camping or emergency outages. The oversized knobs and large frequency dial take the frustration out of tuning, while the high/low tone settings let you customize the audio profile to your liking.

Dusty cassette collections and old CD libraries often end up forgotten in closets because modern tech has moved on. The Retekess TR621 breathes new life into those analog treasures by combining a classic tape deck with a versatile CD player and a reliable AM/FM radio. I was particularly impressed by the dual high-powered speakers that deliver surprisingly clear stereo sound, whether you are plugging in a USB drive or playing a micro SD card. The ability to record directly to tape adds a nostalgic, creative layer that you just don't find on modern devices. It is incredibly easy to move from the kitchen to the backyard thanks to the built-in handle and the option to run it on six D-size batteries when you aren't near a wall outlet.

After weeks of use, the sheer reliability of this tiny powerhouse has become a staple in my emergency preparedness kit. The Retekess V117 is deceptively small, weighing only 4.65oz, yet it packs a massive 18.9-inch retractable antenna that pulls in AM, FM, and Shortwave signals without any frustrating frequency drift. I found the sound quality surprisingly punchy for such a compact device, thanks to the 0.5W speaker that remains clear even at higher volumes. It is an ideal companion for seniors taking a stroll thanks to the included lanyard, and because it runs on two AA batteries that can last for weeks, it provides genuine peace of mind during hurricane season or power outages. It is a simple, no-nonsense tool that prioritizes essential communication when you need it most.

The Retekess V112 is a remarkably lightweight pocket radio that punches far above its weight class for anyone needing audio on the move. Weighing just 0.1lb, this tiny gold device fits effortlessly into a running pocket without feeling bulky. I found the digital tuning incredibly responsive, and the ability to preset up to 58 stations—split evenly between AM and FM—makes cycling through your favorites seamless. The large LCD display keeps station info and power levels clear at a glance, while the dedicated lock key is a lifesaver for preventing accidental button presses during a jog. With a 10-hour battery life and the clever trick of using the headphone cable to boost reception, it is a highly practical companion for active listeners.

Most portable radios force you to fumble through endless tuning just to find a signal, but the Retekess V111 simplifies the experience with a dedicated favorite key. I found that being able to jump straight to a preset FM station with one touch makes it a much more reliable companion for hiking or morning routines. The 17-inch retractable antenna does heavy lifting for reception across MW, SW, and FM bands, providing surprisingly clear audio for such a compact device. It functions as a full-featured bedside companion too, thanks to the integrated alarm clock, sleep timer, and perpetual calendar. Whether you are powering it via AA batteries for a walk or using a DC 5V connection at home, it delivers a consistent, loud stereo sound that punches well above its weight class.

Most portable radios force you to struggle with static and tiny, unresponsive buttons, but the Retekess TR604 prioritizes tactile, reliable tuning. I found the cylinder-style tuning knob incredibly intuitive, making it easy to sweep through the 87-108MHz FM and 520-1710KHz AM bands without the frustration of digital lag. The 3.5-inch speaker delivers surprisingly loud and clear audio, and the ability to toggle between high and low tones allows you to customize the sound to your preference. For the best signal, you'll want to extend the 24-inch telescopic swivel antenna, or simply rotate the unit to optimize AM reception. Whether you are plugging in standard 3.5mm headphones for private listening or using it in a community setting, this radio feels built for consistent, straightforward performance.

Most portable radios offer nothing more than tinny, unusable static, but the Retekess V115 breaks that cycle with surprisingly deep bass and versatile recording capabilities. While testing this digital unit, the ability to jump directly to a frequency using the number keys made tuning a breeze compared to clunky analog dials. It handles FM, AM, and Shortwave bands with impressive range, though you will definitely notice the Shortwave reception shines brightest at night or with an external antenna. The inclusion of a high-fidelity 45mm loudspeaker in the PR11 model ensures the sound remains clear even at high volumes. Whether you are playing MP3s from a TF card or recording voice memos via the MIC input, this set provides a level of multifunctionality rarely seen in such compact electronics.

Modern digital convenience often forgets that sometimes you just want to turn a physical knob to find a signal. The Retekess TR618 breaks the mold by combining a classic analog transistor feel with surprisingly modern versatility. While the TR618 handles shortwave, AM, and FM frequencies with a large, easy-to-use tuning pointer, it also doubles as an MP3 player via TF or SD cards. For those who prefer a more digital approach, the TR101 model offers manual station searching and can even function as a computer headset through its AUX input. Both units are designed with portability in mind, utilizing simple battery power and 3.5mm earphone jacks for private listening. It is a rare find that caters to both the old-school shortwave enthusiast and the modern listener looking for a simple, portable audio solution.

Most people assume modern digital tuning is the only way to go, but sometimes a massive analog knob is actually the superior interface. This Retekess pairing offers two distinct approaches to listening. The V115 is a tech-forward choice, allowing you to punch in specific frequencies via number keys or let the device hunt for stations automatically. On the flip side, the TR604 is a masterclass in accessibility, featuring a large analog readout and a chunky volume knob that makes it incredibly easy for seniors or those with visual impairments to navigate. With a massive 23.62-inch rotatable antenna and a punchy 2W speaker, you aren't just getting ease of use. You're getting reliable reception and enough volume to carry your news or music from the living room to the beach.

Serious DX enthusiasts and emergency preparedness buffs require this dual-threat radio setup to ensure they never lose contact with the world. The V115 is a standout for audio lovers, featuring a dedicated bass speaker and the ability to record radio broadcasts or your own voice directly to a Micro SD card via the AUX or MIC inputs. Meanwhile, the TR110 handles the heavy lifting for long-range communication, utilizing modern DSP digital demodulation to sharpen sensitivity across MW, FM, Shortwave, CB, and Airband frequencies. Its Single Side Band (SSB) capability is a game-changer for reaching distant signals, and the inclusion of an external antenna input means you can boost reception significantly in weak areas. This kit offers a versatile blend of high-fidelity listening and rugged, multi-band utility.

You can jump straight to a frequency using the number keys or let the DSP handle the search. With long retractable antennas and the option to switch between AC power or three D batteries, these are reliable companions for any shortwave enthusiast.

What sets this radio apart is the dedicated NOAA weather band, which covers seven channels to ensure you never miss a critical disaster alert. The tuning process is refreshingly old-school. Instead of hunting through digital menus, you use a large, tactile knob and a clear dial scale that makes finding frequencies incredibly precise. It delivers surprisingly loud, high-quality audio through its 2W speaker, which is a lifesaver for those who struggle with quieter devices. Whether you are plugging it into a wall outlet or relying on long-lasting D batteries for an outdoor excursion, the signal remains stable thanks to the impressive telescopic antenna.
