Best 1 Upright Vacuum Cleaners in 2026

Pet hair has a way of weaving itself into carpet fibers, and the CleanView Swivel Pet is built to dig it back out. The triple action brush roll loosens, lifts, and pulls embedded fur from carpet and rugs, while swivel steering lets you whip around table legs and sofa corners without wrestling the handle. On hard floors, scatter-free technology grabs crumbs and kibble instead of launching them across the room, and edge-to-edge suction means baseboards and corners don't get a free pass. A large dirt tank keeps you cleaning longer between empties, and the included pet upholstery tools handle stairs and couches. Purchases also support the Bissell Pet Foundation's work with homeless pets.

Weight is where the Shark Rocket wins you over first — just under nine pounds, so carrying it up a staircase or across a couch arm never feels like a chore. From there, the corded motor holds steady instead of fading mid-room the way battery models can, meaning carpets get the same deep clean on the last pass as the first. Pop the wand off and it converts to a handheld for stairs, car seats, and pet hair woven into upholstery, with crevice and upholstery tools included. Swivel steering slides around table legs and corners, and the slim floor nozzle ducks under low furniture. The dust cup empties in seconds, and the hand vac clips to the base for freestanding closet storage.

Shark's Rotator Powered Lift-Away TruePet solves the two jobs most uprights handle badly: pet hair and stairs. Detach the pod with one hand and the powered brushroll keeps spinning, so you can carry it right up a stair riser or under the couch without dragging the whole machine along. Swivel steering makes tight corners feel almost effortless, and the LED headlights expose the dust and fur you'd otherwise glide straight past. The anti-allergen seal works with the HEPA filter to trap 99.9% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum, which matters in an allergy household. The generous dust cup stretches cleaning sessions, fingertip controls switch between hard floor and carpet instantly, and the self-cleaning Pet Power Brush, upholstery tool, and crevice tool cover nearly everything else.

Most people assume that a lightweight vacuum means sacrificing suction power, but the Eureka PowerSpeed defies that logic with its 960-watt motor. While maneuvering this 10-pound machine around furniture, I was impressed by how easily the five height adjustment settings transition from hardwood to thick rugs. The LED headlights are a total game-changer for spotting hidden dust bunnies under the sofa, and the massive 2.6-liter dust cup means you aren't constantly running back to the trash can. It comes packed with useful tools like a pet turbo brush and a telescoping crevice tool, making it a versatile workhorse for anyone dealing with pet hair or hard-to-reach ceiling corners. It’s a surprisingly capable setup for such an affordable price point.

The Vibragroom II design ensures that your machine maintains its signature deep-cleaning performance on various carpet types. Installing this 12-inch silver roller is a straightforward way to breathe new life into popular models like the SC684 or SC886D without having to invest in an entirely new vacuum unit. With the included 8ft hose and specialized pet tool, you can easily tackle stairs and upholstery, making it a comprehensive solution for a busy, animal-friendly home.

Most people settle for bulky, heavy vacuums that lose suction the moment the bin gets full, but the Kenmore Intuition changes that dynamic entirely. This upright feels surprisingly agile at just 14lbs, and the swivel steering makes navigating around furniture feel effortless. What really sets it apart is the Lift-Up feature. A simple button press detaches the handheld unit, making stairs and tight corners much easier to tackle. You won't have to deal with the usual dusty mess of emptying canisters either, thanks to the No Touch Bag Technology that seals everything away for a hands-free cleanup. Even as the bag fills, the PowerFlow chamber ensures your suction stays strong, while the sealed HEPA system keeps your air much cleaner.

The Shark Vertex Lift-Away is built for homes where pet hair never really stops falling. Its DuoClean PowerFins brushroll digs into carpet and engages hard floors in a single pass, and the self-cleaning design means you won't spend evenings cutting tangled hair off the roller. Detach the pod to motorized-clean under furniture, or pull the nozzle free for stairs and upholstery, using the pet crevice tool for cushions and corners. A complete HEPA seal traps dust and allergens inside the vacuum, while LED headlights expose grit hiding along baseboards. The large one-quart dust cup empties cleanly, and Active Glide keeps the push and pull surprisingly light.

The Hoover unit is a mobility powerhouse, weighing under 10 pounds and featuring a chiropractor-designed harness to minimize user strain during long shifts. Its 48-foot power cord means you can tackle massive spaces without constant unplugging. I was particularly impressed by the motorized brush, which stays active even when you switch into the Lift-Away mode to tackle stairs or furniture. The Never Loses Suction technology ensures you aren't fighting a losing battle against dust buildup halfway through a session. Having a crevice tool and upholstery attachment tucked right on the machine makes transitioning from hardwood to deep carpet feel seamless. It is a versatile hybrid that manages to feel like two distinct machines rather than a compromised middle ground.

Pet hair has a way of sinking into carpet fibers, and the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser DualBrush is engineered to drag it back out. Two brush rolls work as a team — one agitates debris loose while the other conforms to the surface — so cereal, sand, and embedded fur all lift in a single pass. The HEPA sealed allergen system traps dust and dander inside the vacuum instead of blowing it back into the room, a real difference if anyone in the house sneezes through spring. FurFinder headlights expose roughly six times more hidden fur, and the Lift-Off pod detaches so you can carry the canister up stairs and into tight corners without hauling the entire machine. A genuinely thoughtful upright for homes with shedding pets.

While the 23-minute runtime on the 2200mAh battery is perfect for quick daily tidies or spot cleaning, you'll want to keep an eye on the clock during deep cleans. The included upright charging base and crevice nozzle make this a surprisingly complete kit for under eighty dollars.

You might assume a budget-friendly upright would struggle with deep-seated debris, but this BLACK+DECKER model proves that raw power doesn't always require a massive price tag. The 1,200-Watt motor provides consistent, corded suction that never dips like cordless alternatives, which is a massive relief during long cleaning sessions. Navigating around heavy dining room chairs and tight corner baseboards used to feel like a constant battle against a bulky machine. The Dirt Devil Razor changes that dynamic with its 180-degree swivel steering that lets you weave through obstacles without the usual struggle. I found the automatic floor height adjustment particularly helpful when transitioning from my hardwood kitchen to the living room rugs, as it maintains consistent suction without manual tweaking. The on-board turbo tool is a lifesaver for pulling pet hair out of carpet fibers, and the quick-release extension wand makes reaching ceiling fans much less of a chore. It is a practical, high-reach solution for anyone tired of fighting their vacuum in cramped spaces.

Spilling a bowl of cereal on the rug or dealing with a sudden influx of pet hair becomes significantly less stressful when you have a tool that adapts to the mess. This Shark Navigator is a versatile workhorse, especially with its powered lift-away feature that transforms the upright into a portable vacuum for stairs and upholstery. The 1140-watt motor provides serious suction through a wide 12-inch clearing path, making floor transitions feel effortless. I particularly value the HEPA filtration system. It feels like a professional-grade cleaning solution for a much more reasonable price point.

The Oreck Commercial U2000RB2L stands out as a powerhouse of efficiency thanks to its ingenious two-speed Quickswitch system. While most uprights force you to choose between noise and power, this unit lets you toggle between a quiet 70 dB mode for minimal disruption and a high-performance setting for heavy-traffic zones. I was particularly impressed by how the double helix brushes spin at a massive 6500 RPMs, pulling debris from deep within carpet fibers. The whole-machine HEPA filtration traps allergens and bacteria so effectively that it is certified asthma and allergy friendly. Between the instant-release high-reach wand and the specialized tools for stairs and delicate surfaces, this vacuum covers every corner of a modern home with impressive suction.

Most people assume a standard upright vacuum is enough to handle a pet-friendly home, but the sheer volume of dander and hair often requires a specialized secondary system. This Simplicity bundle bridges that gap by pairing a versatile upright cleaner with a dedicated Pet Hair Beware tool. The vacuum handles everything from hard floors to high-pile carpets thanks to its adjustable height settings, while the included HEPA media filter and vacuum bag work together to trap allergens. I found the rotating handle on the pet hair squeegee particularly helpful for maneuvering around furniture to lift stubborn fur from upholstery.
