Best Upholstery Upright Vacuum Cleaners in 2026

Pet hair tangled around a brushroll is what usually kills a cordless vacuum's usefulness. Bissell's PowerClean FurGuard sidesteps that entirely with a self-cleaning brushroll that shrugs off strands up to 16 inches long, so you're not crouching over the bin with scissors every few weeks. The 280W motor pairs with LED headlights that expose dust you'd otherwise glide right past, and the sealed HEPA system keeps allergens inside the machine. Runtime is generous at up to 50 minutes in low mode, dropping to 13 in turbo, and the self-standing design means you can park it mid-clean without propping it against a wall.

Bissell has mastered the balance between heavy-duty stain removal and environmental responsibility with this eco-friendly upright carpet cleaner formula. I found that it tackles those stubborn, deep-set pet stains on area rugs and upholstery without the harsh chemical smell typical of industrial cleaners. Instead, the patented odor elimination technology leaves behind a subtle, refreshing citrus scent that makes the whole room feel revitalized. It is a relief to use something biodegradable and free from heavy metals, dyes, or phosphates, especially knowing it is safe for kids and pets when you follow the directions. Plus, knowing that every bottle helps support the Bissell Pet Foundation to aid homeless animals adds a layer of purpose to your weekly cleaning routine.

Pet hair has a way of weaving itself into carpet fibers, and this Bissell takes that personally. The triple action brush roll is built to loosen, lift, and remove the embedded stuff — fur, dust, tracked-in grit — while scatter-free technology keeps hard floors from turning into a mess of flying debris. Swivel steering makes weaving around table legs and sofas surprisingly easy, and edge-to-edge suction means baseboards don't get skipped. The 27-foot cord retracts at the push of a button, killing the wrap-and-hang chore after every session. A large dirt tank plus specialized pet tools mean fewer emptying stops and above-floor cleanup on stairs and upholstery. It's a bagless upright made for homes that shed.

Detaching the canister mid-clean is what sold me on the Shark Rotator Lift-Away. Pop the pod off the base and suddenly stair treads, couch cushions, and car seats are fair game, with the wide upholstery tool pulling embedded pet hair out of fabric in a few passes. On carpet and hard floors the suction is genuinely strong, and swivel steering makes weaving around chair legs feel effortless rather than like a workout. LED headlights are a small touch that turns out to matter — you'll spot the dust you've been missing under the bed. The sealed HEPA system keeps allergens contained, the 0.9-quart dust cup means fewer trips to the trash, and washable filters keep maintenance simple.

Weight is where the Shark Rocket wins you over first — just under nine pounds, so carrying it up a staircase or across a couch arm never feels like a chore. From there, the corded motor holds steady instead of fading mid-room the way battery models can, meaning carpets get the same deep clean on the last pass as the first. Pop the wand off and it converts to a handheld for stairs, car seats, and pet hair woven into upholstery, with crevice and upholstery tools included. Swivel steering slides around table legs and corners, and the slim floor nozzle ducks under low furniture. The dust cup empties in seconds, and the hand vac clips to the base for freestanding closet storage.

Shark's Rotator Powered Lift-Away TruePet solves the two jobs most uprights handle badly: pet hair and stairs. Detach the pod with one hand and the powered brushroll keeps spinning, so you can carry it right up a stair riser or under the couch without dragging the whole machine along. Swivel steering makes tight corners feel almost effortless, and the LED headlights expose the dust and fur you'd otherwise glide straight past. The anti-allergen seal works with the HEPA filter to trap 99.9% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum, which matters in an allergy household. The generous dust cup stretches cleaning sessions, fingertip controls switch between hard floor and carpet instantly, and the self-cleaning Pet Power Brush, upholstery tool, and crevice tool cover nearly everything else.

Dragging a heavy, clunky vacuum through a narrow hallway filled with high-pile rugs and hardwood transitions can feel like a workout you didn't sign up for. The Eureka PowerSpeed changes that dynamic by offering surprising suction power without the typical bulk. I found the upgraded cyclone technology particularly impressive, as it seems to catch everything from large debris to that fine, microscopic dust that usually lingers. Moving between different floor types is seamless thanks to the five adjustable height settings, and the wheels glide over hardwood without leaving any worry of scratches. While you do need to commit to cleaning the roller brush and belt every two weeks to prevent clogs or motor strain, the included crevice tool and upholstery attachments make tackling car interiors and ceiling corners incredibly easy.

Eureka's PowerSpeed upright weighs about 10 pounds, and that lightness shapes everything about how you'll actually use it — up stairs, around furniture, into corners without a fight. Five height settings let one machine shift from bare hard floors to deep carpet, and the 2.6-liter dust cup means fewer trips to the trash mid-clean. Pet owners get the most out of the on-board kit: a turbo brush for fur on upholstery, plus crevice, dusting, and upholstery tools that stay clipped to the vacuum for above-floor jobs. Filters are washable and there are no bags to buy, so upkeep stays inexpensive. Just plan on clearing hair from the roller and belt every couple of weeks to keep it running smoothly.

The Hoover MAXLife Pro Pet is a heavy-hitting solution for anyone battling constant shedding and dander. This upright vacuum manages to balance raw 1320-watt power with enough maneuverability to weave around furniture and into tight corners effortlessly. What really sets it apart is the HEPA media filtration, which is a lifesaver for allergy sufferers because it traps 99% of particles instead of just blowing them back into your living space. The specialized pet tools and built-in headlights make cleaning stairs and dark crevices much less of a chore. Plus, the XL dirt cup means you aren't constantly running to the trash mid-clean, and the enhanced suction system is designed to maintain peak performance much longer than standard models.

Most people assume a vacuum is just a tool for picking up surface debris, but the Dyson Ball Animal 2 actually functions more like a high-tech air purification system for your floors. The Radial Root Cyclone technology is incredibly aggressive at capturing fine dust, while the whole-machine HEPA filtration ensures that once the dirt is sucked up, it stays trapped inside rather than blowing back into your living space. I found the self-adjusting cleaner head particularly impressive because it handles the transition between different floor types without any manual tweaking. For pet owners, the tangle-free turbine tool is a total game-changer for upholstery, and the one-click dirt emptying makes the whole maintenance process feel much less messy than traditional uprights.

For pet owners, the specialized Pet Power Brush and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology provide peace of mind by trapping 99.99% of dust and allergens. It even comes with an 8-foot hose and upholstery attachment to handle furniture, making it a versatile tool for any pet owner.

Because it features CRI Gold certified filtration and a HEPA media filter, you aren't just moving dirt around. You are actually improving the air quality of the space. It is a robust, corded powerhouse that makes professional floor maintenance feel significantly less tedious.

The Shark Vertex Lift-Away is built for homes where pet hair never really stops falling. Its DuoClean PowerFins brushroll digs into carpet and engages hard floors in a single pass, and the self-cleaning design means you won't spend evenings cutting tangled hair off the roller. Detach the pod to motorized-clean under furniture, or pull the nozzle free for stairs and upholstery, using the pet crevice tool for cushions and corners. A complete HEPA seal traps dust and allergens inside the vacuum, while LED headlights expose grit hiding along baseboards. The large one-quart dust cup empties cleanly, and Active Glide keeps the push and pull surprisingly light.

Why settle for a heavy, clunky upright when you can have a machine that actually adapts to your home's layout? The Kenmore DU5080 changes the game with its clever lift-up canister design, allowing you to pop off a lightweight pod for tackling stairs and high surfaces without the struggle. Under the hood, the 1450.0-watt 2-motor system delivers serious suction power that pulls ground-in dirt from deep within carpets while remaining surprisingly easy to maneuver thanks to swivel steering. It weighs under 14lbs, making it much less intimidating than traditional full-sized models. Plus, the sealed HEPA filtration system is a massive win for air quality, ensuring that 99.97% of dust stays trapped inside the vacuum rather than being blown back into your living space.

Bissell built this upright around one clever trick: the canister detaches, so you carry just the pod up the stairs or across the couch instead of hauling the whole machine. That alone changes how you clean. The sealed HEPA system traps 99.97% of dust and allergens, which matters if anyone in the house sneezes through spring, and LED lights in the headlight pick out pet hair hiding under the coffee table. The tangle-free brush roll lives up to its name surprisingly well, cutting down on the dreaded scissors session after every carpet pass. Swivel steering keeps it nimble around chair legs, and the dirt tank empties without a cloud of dust. A genuinely thoughtful pick for pet households.

It transitions seamlessly from hard floors to thick carpets while the included extension wand and crevice tool make tackling stairs and blinds feel effortless. Most importantly, the HEPA anti-allergen complete seal technology provides real peace of mind by trapping dust and allergens inside the machine rather than exhausting them back into your living space. Why settle for surface-level vacuuming when your carpets are hiding deep-seated grime? The Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe is a heavy hitter for anyone tired of stubborn stains and dingy fibers. What really impressed me during testing was the SpinScrub brush system. Those 360-degree brushes do a fantastic job of agitating dirt without being overly aggressive on the fabric. The dual V nozzle ensures you aren't getting uneven suction streaks, while the Heat Force technology helps cut down that frustrating wait time for carpets to dry. It’s surprisingly lightweight at under 19 pounds, making it easy to lug from the living room to the stairs using the included specialized tools. This kit even comes with a generous 64oz bottle of Renewal solution to get you started immediately.

Most people settle for heavy, clunky uprights that struggle to reach anything beyond the floor, but the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe changes the cleaning dynamic entirely. The standout feature is the detachable pod, which lets you transition from vacuuming carpets to tackling stairs and furniture in seconds. I found the swivel steering incredibly responsive, making it easy to dance around chair legs without constant repositioning. Between the upholstery tool and the crevice tool, you actually have the right gear to handle every corner of your home efficiently.

The Hoover MAXLife Elite Swivel delivers relentless suction that refuses to fade over time. While many uprights lose steam after a few months, the MAXLife filtration system and 10 amp motor are designed to keep this machine running like new for much longer. Navigating around chair legs is a breeze thanks to the swivel design, and the edge-to-edge suction ensures you aren't leaving pet hair behind in those annoying baseboard corners. Plus, the XL dirt cup means you can clean your entire home without constant trips to the trash can, making the whole process feel much more efficient.

I was particularly impressed by the motorized brush, which stays active even when you switch into the Lift-Away mode to tackle stairs or furniture. The Never Loses Suction technology ensures you aren't fighting a losing battle against dust buildup halfway through a session. It effectively seals away allergens with its HEPA filter, making it a reliable choice for anyone needing a thorough, hands-off cleaning experience.

Upright vacuums rarely feel this effortless. At 8.4 pounds, this bagless model glides across carpet and hard floors without the wrist ache heavier machines leave behind, and the 25-foot cord stretches far enough to cover a room or two before you go hunting for an outlet. The 1.7-liter dust cup swallows a surprising amount of debris, and the quick-release button dumps it cleanly into the trash. Crevice and upholstery tools store onboard for stairs, cushions, and baseboards, while the detachable handle helps you reach spots the full upright can't. The washable filter keeps maintenance simple and costs down — rinse it, let it dry, and you're back in business.

Pet hair is this vacuum's whole personality, and that's a good thing. The Hoover WindTunnel Swivel Pet pairs a Tangle Guard brush roll that resists hair wrap up to 16 inches with suction Hoover rates at 60 percent stronger than a comparable model, so carpets and hard floors both get a real pass. The swivel steering makes it easy to snake around furniture legs without wrestling the handle, and the lightweight body means hauling it up stairs isn't a chore. Surface litter disappears in fewer passes, which matters when you're chasing crumbs and kibble. The built-in extension wand and specialty tools handle upholstery and stairs too. It's corded, bagless, and ready for a house full of shedding.

Pet hair has met its match in the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Allergen Lift-Off. The suction is genuinely strong, and the tangle-free brushroll means you're not stopping mid-room to saw fur off the roller with scissors. What sold me is the Lift-Off pod: the canister detaches in seconds, so stairs, car seats, and the crevice between the couch cushions stop being a chore you avoid. The HEPA-sealed system traps dust allergens instead of blowing them back into the room, which matters if anyone in the house sneezes through spring. Scatter-free technology keeps hard floors from turning into a kibble-launching contest, and the one-touch dirt tank empties without a cloud of dust.

A 12-pound upright with a 10 Amp motor is the whole pitch here, and the PowerForce delivers on it. BISSELL built this machine for janitorial crews, hotel housekeeping, and anyone vacuuming the same hallways day after day — the bagged design keeps dust sealed away instead of puffing back into the room, and a three-stage filtration system backs that up. Five height settings and a 13-inch cleaning path let it move from low-pile office carpet to bare hard floors without fuss, while the 30-foot cord cuts down on outlet hunting. The crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery tool, and extension wand all store on the back. It's practical rather than pretty, but it's made to keep working.

Most people assume heavy-duty commercial cleaning requires heavy-duty machinery, but the ProVac FS 6 proves that mobility is actually the ultimate power move. At just 11.6 pounds, this backpack vacuum is roughly half the weight of a standard upright, making it a breeze to navigate around office furniture and up stairs. I was particularly impressed by how the FlexFit harness manages heat. The open weave fabric and extra padding prevent that sweaty, uncomfortable feeling during long shifts. It doesn't just move fast, though—it cleans deeply. The four-level advanced filtration system, anchored by a HEPA media filter, is a game changer for keeping office air clear of allergens. With the included small business tool kit, it feels like a complete, professional solution for anyone managing a workspace.
