Best Powertek in 2026

A junior goalie facing a heavy slap shot needs more than just padding. They need confidence in their gear. The PowerTek Barikad V5.0 delivers that security through reinforced arm and chest protectors designed to absorb high-velocity impacts. I was particularly impressed by the extended shoulder floaters, which do a fantastic job of improving puck deflection while providing extra coverage. The lace system at the shoulders allows for precise, adjustable arm positioning, ensuring the gear stays secure during lateral movements. Since these are designed in Canada, there is a clear understanding of the rugged requirements of ice hockey. It feels like a substantial piece of equipment that prioritizes both protection and the mobility a young goaltender needs to stay competitive.

PowerTek has engineered a standout option for junior players with the V5.0 Tek Youth Ice Hockey Gloves, delivering a perfect balance of mobility and impact resistance. After testing the feel, it is clear that the flexible full motion cuff is the star here, allowing young athletes to move their wrists naturally without that stiff, restrictive sensation found in cheaper gear. The durable synthetic nylon exterior stands up well to the rigors of the rink, while the integrated plastic inserts in the thumb and wrist areas provide much-needed security during play. Inside, a soft lining ensures comfort during long practices, making these a reliable choice for developing players who need gear that moves with them rather than against them.

Young hockey players need gear that stays put during high-intensity shifts, and these PowerTek compression shorts deliver exactly that. I found the lightweight compression fit to be a game-changer for junior athletes who need to move freely without the bulk of traditional equipment. The moisture-wicking fabric helps manage sweat effectively, while the inclusion of a cup and sock tabs ensures everything stays securely in place throughout the game. The full elastic waistband provides a reliable fit, and since they are machine washable, cleanup after a muddy practice is incredibly easy. For parents navigating junior sizing, the specific waist measurements make finding the right fit much less of a guessing game. It is a durable, essential piece of base layer equipment for any developing player.

You get shoulder pads, shin guards, elbow pads, pants, and gloves, all bundled with a dedicated equipment bag to keep the gear organized. While it doesn't include skates or socks, it covers the essential protective layers required for beginner play. The Large size is specifically tailored for kids aged 8 to 11, ensuring the fit is appropriate for their growing frames. It is a streamlined, practical solution for parents looking to get their kids into the sport without a massive upfront logistical struggle.

Most hockey players settle for heavy, sweat-soaked base layers that feel like a burden mid-game, but the Powertek V3.0 Tek Mesh Jock Short changes that dynamic entirely. Most parents end up buying standard skates that kids outgrow in a single season, but the PowerTek V3.0 Adjustable Hockey Skate changes that cycle entirely. Instead of constant replacements, these skates offer a smart, adjustable design that grows alongside your young athlete. During my testing, the steel blades felt surprisingly responsive for a recreational setup, providing the necessary edge work for both casual pond skating and organized sport. The felt tongue adds a layer of much-needed comfort, preventing that common pressure point irritation during long sessions. They feel remarkably durable for the price point, making them a reliable choice for active kids who are constantly pushing their limits on the ice.

Junior goaltenders who demand mobility without sacrificing safety need to look closely at the PowerTek Barikad pants. I found that the low-profile curved thigh protectors are a game-changer for younger players, providing a streamlined feel that doesn't feel bulky or restrictive.
